Uyn Airwing Jersey Review

Still little known in the cycling world, undoubtedly due to the power of major renowned brands, the Italian brand Uyn nevertheless has strong arguments against the competition. We tested the Uyn Airwing jersey for you, as well as a base layer and socks from the brand.

The packaging is very high-end.

The factory, located in the Po Valley, between Verona and Piacenza, where many brands are established, now equips Italian ambassador Omar Di Felice. For his most extreme challenges, such as crossing the Himalayas alone in winter, the former professional trusts UYN, and their collaboration now provides cyclists with cutting-edge apparel. Let’s take a closer look at the jersey we tested, the Airwing jersey. Uyn has the particularity of caring for the environment by using Natex, a 100% organic fiber, which is very light (25% less weight compared to a similar fiber) but which, above all, dries twice as fast. We will come back to this advantage in the mountains. The first thing that strikes you when you hold the package: its weight. The jersey is very light: 165 g in size S

The Uyn Airwing jersey is particularly suitable for high-altitude efforts.

Second thing: its material. This Natex, in appearance, is not comparable to a synthetic Castelli or Assos jersey; it’s a mesh jersey with a more ventilated part in the back. It has a rather fitted cut, doesn’t ride up too much, and clings well to the skin. On our long mountain rides in temperatures oscillating between 10 and 40 degrees, we appreciated this Natex for its versatility and wide range of use.

By playing with the base layer, which we’ll come back to later, arm warmers, and a windbreaker, I found this jersey to be very versatile. Its big advantage is that it will retain body heat while evacuating perspiration very quickly. This is its major strong point compared to the competition. The special mesh, Natex, will provide a significant warmth gain on sometimes cool descents at altitude, or simply in the early morning. Managing the temperature differences one sometimes encounters is then simplified. If you use a fairly thin base layer, even in heatwave conditions, it ventilates like a normal jersey. With a thicker base layer, or the Uyn (like HERE) that was offered to us during the test and which is rather reserved for temperatures up to 27/28°C, it retains too much heat to be ventilated if it’s hotter. Note the presence of three rear pockets that I would describe as medium-sized, neither large nor small, just enough for rides of more than 6 hours. Access is easy, elasticity is quite good, and durability seems good.

Last point, rather for ultimate performance and time trial enthusiasts, the fact that the jersey is made of a single piece of fabric gives the product an aerodynamic advantage. Hard to quantify, but the dimples on the shoulders leave a low aero drag. So here we have a product that is at the very high end of what can currently be done, which is also offered at €139, a rather acceptable price.

The lack of promotion by a professional team, for example, still penalizes the brand, but one thing is certain, you won’t make a mistake by choosing this jersey model. This version is also available in their women’s range, as well as in a long-sleeve version for cooler rides.

Thanks to Natex, the socks are not compressive and are very comfortable to wear.

To complete your order, the socks. At Uyn, the Cycling one light model, which uses Natex, makes them a pair without elastic. While this may seem insignificant on paper, the absence of elastic does not compress the lower calf, and you immediately appreciate this comfort, whether on the bike or for everyday use. If your legs swell due to heat, travel, etc., here you forget about tight lower calves.
