Pirelli is launching two TPU inner tubes: the SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X

Pirelli is expanding its line of premium inner tubes for road, gravel, and e-bike tires with two new models. The Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X inner tubes, designed for the Pirelli P ZERO tire and the CINTURATO and ANGEL tire families, respectively, are now available on the market.

SMARTUBE EVO AND P ZERO: A BLEND OF FLEXIBILITY AND COMFORT

SmarTUBE inner tubes are made from TPU, a thermoplastic polyurethane characterized by high elasticity and mechanical strength, as well as extreme lightness. The new Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO inner tube is designed using a new TPU formulation; it offers flexibility, smoothness, and comfort that rival those of latex inner tubes, while providing a weight reduction of up to 50% compared to latex inner tubes.

In addition, it offers a 5% reduction in rolling resistance compared to the Pirelli SmarTUBE inner tube, which is already among the fastest on the market (*). This evolution of Pirelli’s famous SmarTUBE takes into account feedback from World Tour teams collaborating with the Milan-based company, with the aim of enhancing the P ZERO tires’ performance in terms of lightness and speed, and extends these benefits to all enthusiasts who prefer the practicality of the “tire + inner tube” setup.

Bright yellow, as tradition dictates, and available in a single version, in sizes ranging from 25-622 to 28-622, the new Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO inner tube is available with three different all-black Presta valves: 42 mm, 60 mm, and up to 80 mm for high-profile wheels.

SMARTUBE X: DURABILITY AND HIGH PUNCTURE RESISTANCE

Meanwhile, the Pirelli SmarTUBE X is the new TPU inner tube model that Pirelli has designed specifically for the CINTURATO and ANGEL tire families: Three times thicker than the current CINTURATO SmarTUBE (which it replaces), the SmarTUBE X inner tube combines durability with puncture resistance. This model is particularly ideal for urban use or fast commuting.

SmarTUBE X is available in two distinct series: CINTURATO SmarTUBE X for tires ranging from 28-622 to 40-622 and 40-622 to 50-622, with either Presta or Schrader valves, and ANGEL SmarTUBE X for tires ranging from 28-622 to 42-622 and 42-622 to 62-622, with a choice of Presta or Schrader valves.

The new SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X inner tubes, which are part of Pirelli’s TPU inner tube family, are extremely compact: they save 50% more space in jersey pockets or backpacks compared to traditional butyl tubes, while maintaining the same airtightness as their butyl counterparts. The first sizes are already available for purchase. The full range is expected to be available by the end of September 2023.
