The enthusiasm for cycle tourism is booming, bike sales are exploding, and many French people cycle during their holidays. Cycle tourism has become the leading tourist itinerancy practice in the country, ahead of hiking, and France even aims to become the top cycle tourism destination.

A multi-functional application to democratize bike travel

To meet the expectations of bike travelers looking for a practical and intuitive tool, Emmanuel Brault and Augustin Gervaise have developed Hexplo, an itinerary creator, but also an accommodation manager and a finder of points of interest, all coupled with a social dimension through its community of enthusiasts.

A concept based on 3 principles:

● A GPS tool to plan and guide your journey;
● See what’s around you (heritage, beautiful routes, water points, etc.);
● A community of enthusiasts (meet, help, create itineraries and ride together, stay with other bike travelers, etc.).

Officially launched in May 2023, Hexplo is the application for bike travelers that lists all their needs.

The application allows you to:

● Calculate an itinerary, plan a trip, navigate with a GPS designed for bikes;
● Discover what’s around you (nearby Hexplorers, the most beautiful villages in France, water points, etc.);
● Find accommodation (Airbnb, Booking, GreenGo, bivouac spots, campsites, etc.);
● Contribute (active Hexplorers are visible on the map, they can send messages to each other, add routes, bivouacs, cultural points of interest, etc.).

“Through Hexplo, we want to increase the number of bike travelers. We are not in a dynamic of mass tourism, but rather an incentive to discover, and to offer travelers the possibility of being actors in their journey, of living this interlude in real time, and of being enriched by this experience throughout the trip,” explains Emmanuel Brault, co-founder of Hexplo.

“We are convinced that traveling by bike is the future. More and more bike travelers are exploring our roads, and they sometimes struggle to create their own itinerary, straying from the routes offered by traditional GPS platforms, which are not optimized for bikes. We therefore want to support them in creating their journey, make them actors in this trip, and guide them to discover the cultural gems around us. Because traveling by bike means taking your time, we make it a point of honor to create a community that can exchange, support each other, but above all, have fun on the beautiful paths available!” continues Emmanuel, co-founder of Hexplo.

A community that is just waiting to meet people

The application offers Hexplorers much more than a simple navigation tool: every registered user can get in touch with their peers, exchange with them, and from today, go even further in the community experience. Hexplo offers a couchsurfing service that allows users to connect with Hexplorers open to hosting bike travelers.

“We realized that bike travelers seek contact with others in this practice, so we want to facilitate these exchanges and offer added value to these two-wheeled adventurers. Itinerant travel has the beauty of taking you off the beaten path, and the strength of a passion lies in exchanging with other enthusiasts,” concludes Emmanuel.

Hexplo aims to give its users a taste for adventure, to help them discover French heritage, but above all to protect the environment by promoting the gentle mobility that cycling represents.
