France Vélo Événements has chosen the Grand Châtellerault urban area and its particularly suitable territory to organize its first sporting and festive event centered around Gravel riding, held from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22, 2023: Gravel Fever.

A booming cycling discipline, Gravel will be celebrated this autumn in the Grand Châtellerault urban area, from Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22, 2023. With a 3-year agreement, the event will be renewed for 2024 and 2025.

Sylvain Chavanel, former professional cyclist, French road cycling champion, and multiple stage winner on the Tour de France, a native of Châtellerault and a Gravel enthusiast, participated in the development of the various routes that will allow participants to discover the discipline, push their limits, and also enjoy the richness of the territory and its heritage.

While the vibrant heart of the village will be set up on the historic Manu site, the organization will offer various routes adapted to all desires and all levels (including for novices of the discipline and for families):

The Gravel Fever Ultra 400, which will depart from the National Velodrome of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines to reach Châtellerault during a demanding nocturnal route.
The Gravel Fever Race 160, with timed segments.
The Gravel Fever Adventure 120, an intermediate level.
The Gravel Fever Duo 80 to be completed in pairs, for a convivial shared moment around cycling.
The Gravel Fever Découverte 50, open to all riders.

An accessible and free 25 km ride will also be offered during the weekend to introduce as many people as possible to this new practice, including families. This format will be open to all riders, regardless of their bike type (gravel but also mountain bikes, hybrid bikes…).

During the weekend, positioned at the very beginning of the school holidays, participants and visitors can enjoy numerous activities, including a musical evening with a DJ and many food stalls.

Registrations are already open on the website www.gravelfever.fr

Michel Callot, President of the FFC: « Fully invested in the launch of Gravel Fever in Châtellerault with Hopscotch, the French Cycling Federation is happy to be able to energize the emerging practice of Gravel by offering a sporting and festive event in the heart of a multifaceted territory. »
