Tricolore Goal: from September 9 to October 1, the great relay race created by Alex Zanardi is back!

From Cortina d’Ampezzo to Paris: the fourth edition of the fascinating Paralympic relay (26 stages and 1,600 kilometers) conceived by Zanardi and organized by “Obiettivo3” is back and will cross the Alps for the first time. More than 70 athletes will take turns, on handbikes, bikes, Olympic wheelchairs and canoes, descending into main squares to introduce the public to the various Paralympic disciplines.

This time, in September, Obiettivo Tricolore relaunches the great relay race created by Alex Zanardi as a symbol of the restart after the lockdown in 2020, and which this year will symbolically bring together two Olympic cities like Cortina d’Ampezzo and Paris, that is, first the site of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2026 and then of the Summer Games in 2024, passing through Milan, also a site in 2026.

This will be a fourth edition of international scope, beyond the boundaries of disability, which starts on Saturday, September 9, from what was the finish line of the 2022 edition, Cortina d’Ampezzo, to cross into France and complete a 26-stage, more than 1600-kilometer journey around the world in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Sunday, October 1.

The protagonists of this fascinating journey will be, as always, the Paralympic athletes of ‘Obiettivo3’, the project for recruiting and initiating people with disabilities into sport, born a few years ago precisely from Zanardi’s will, who on the saddle of handbikes, bikes, Olympic strollers and canoes will pass the relay to demonstrate that physical and mental disabilities are not a limit, but an opportunity for a different life.

The athletes will cross Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Lombardy, Piedmont and Aosta Valley to then cross the Alps via the Petit Saint Bernard and enter France, in the department of Haute-Savoie. From there, the route will cross the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and Île-de-France regions, with stops in Bourg Saint Maurice, Annecy, Bourg en Bresse, Chalon sur Saône, Semur en Auxois, Auxerre, Sens, Brie Comte Robert and finally Paris.

Obiettivo Tricolore, in addition to being a symbol of hope and redemption for all people who live with and face disability with difficulty, is also a tool for social inclusion and cultural promotion. Indeed, during the many stages, the relay will set up villages open to the public, where athletes and associations will allow the public to discover and try out the various Paralympic disciplines. This will happen in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Conegliano, Padua (Colbachini stadium), Mantua (Campo Canoa), Reggio Emilia (Giannetto Cimurri starting track for cycling), Lecco and Verrès (Ao).

Moreover, promotional events will also be organized at certain stages, such as in Caselle d’Altivole (TV), Noventa Padovana, Pavia – Spinal Unit of the Maugeri institute and Milan, at Torre Allianz, in collaboration with the Allianz Umana Mente Foundation, an important partner of Obiettivo3 for Paralympic skiing.

But that’s not all! Obiettivo Tricolore this year “goes to school”, thanks to the participation of first and second grade primary schools in the cities of Mantua and Verres, while in Padua and Lecco university students of sports science from Padua and the Polytechnic University of Milan – Lecco territorial hub.

To make the message of this relay even stronger and more incisive, the many testimonials who have joined the initiative will be involved, as they are inspired by the value it contains. The presence of Daniele Bennati, Kristian Ghedina, Francesco Moser, Federico Pellegrino, Daniel Fontana, Paralympic cyclists Andrea Tarlao and Fabio Radrizzani and comedians Paolo Kessisoglu and Luca Bizzarri are confirmed. Paralympic athlete and now Senator of the Republic Giusy Versace will also be present and support it.

As already mentioned, the relay will feature all Paralympic athletes, specialists in disciplines such as para-cycling, Paralympic athletics and para-triathlon. Since this year, paracanoeing has also been added to the list of specialties, as in the Mantua stage, Veronica Biglia, a Piedmontese athlete who participated in the Tokyo Paralympic Games, will cross the Mincio river by canoe.

Among the relay runners, the names of Cristina Nuti will be highlighted, the first Italian woman with multiple sclerosis to finish an Ironman, Giulia Ruffato and Davide Cortini, who in the last stage of the World Cup held in Alabama won the bronze medal in the H4 time trial and a silver medal in the road race in the H3 category, as well as the bronze news of Katia Aere at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Angela Procida, Tiziano Monti, here Federico Mestroni and Federico Andreoli, in tandem paired with Luca Chiesa, won a silver medal in line at the World Cup in Ostend (Be).

Sky Sport 24 will cover this exciting journey through three “special” broadcasts each week on the thematic channel and a summary documentary at the end of the event.

The support of the Emilia-Romagna Sport Valley Region continues for the third consecutive year, sharing the values of social inclusion and acceptance of this project.

Many companies will also accompany Obiettivo Tricolore in this fascinating fourth edition.
