Zwift Introduces Zwift Play

Having total control from your handlebars, never having to reach for your keyboard in the middle of an effort again… A long-awaited evolution for Zwifters.

Zwift, the global connected cycling platform, today unveils Zwift Play, the first game controller specifically designed for Zwift. With Zwift Play, cyclists can now take full control of their game experience directly from their handlebars – it’s high time to put your keyboard aside!

Until now, controlling your Zwift experience required using the Zwift Companion app on a phone or tablet. Those who use Zwift Companion to interact with Zwift are statistically more active on the platform, riding two to three times more often each month than those who don’t. Despite the additional benefits included in the app, its users remain a minority. Most setups* are designed to improve rider ventilation and offer the widest possible screen to increase immersion in the game, which makes it more difficult to keep game control elements (a computer keyboard, a tablet or phone screen…) within arm’s reach. Zwift Play therefore aims to put the fun of interaction at your fingertips.

*All useful elements for optimal Zwift use, including at least a bike mounted on an indoor trainer and a screen. The setup can also integrate less essential but interesting elements such as a fan, an additional tablet…

Zwift Play controllers attach to the bike’s handlebars using silicone straps.

They are designed to be quick to install or remove. Once mounted, these two controllers will give Zwifters complete control over the game via specific commands:

– A directional pad on the left controller allows seamless navigation through in-game menus, while also giving them the ability to turn right, left, or make a U-turn to explore Zwift’s virtual worlds.

– Shortcut buttons placed on the right controller, arranged in a familiar configuration, so Zwifters can keep their eyes on the road. These buttons allow riders to make selections in menus, but while riding, they serve as shortcuts to give “Ride Ons,” deploy “PowerUps,” skip workout blocks, teleport to Pacer groups, and more.

– Paddles placed on each controller, which offer steering and braking functionalities. Simply tilt the paddle inward to brake and pull outward to steer your in-game avatar.

From the launch of Zwift Play, Zwifters will be able to choose their direction during events and in free ride mode, including cutting all corners.

Zwift Play controllers are launched alongside a new Zwift Play Beta game experience. The first of these new experiences is called Repack Rush (formerly Repack Ridge) and allows you to try out some of the features introduced with the controllers on a winding course that includes obstacles and bonuses (slowdown zones to avoid, speed boost zones to take, time bonuses to collect…). Repack Rush is a stimulating personal challenge when you want to see something different or ride differently!

New game experiences will be launched and tested in the coming months.

During this beta-test phase, Zwift Play will be available at the reduced price of €99. The planned recommended retail price is €149.

Zwift Play is available for purchase in France, the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom on zwift.com/play.
