This year, the famous Paris-Roubaix cycling race is dedicated to raising awareness about wearing a bike helmet. This initiative was launched by the professional cycling team Jumbo-Visma and its partner Lazer. The team’s cyclists will draw attention with a uniquely designed helmet, on which brains are clearly visible. Too often, a cycling accident results in brain injuries that could have been avoided by wearing a helmet.
Helmet manufacturer Lazer knows better than anyone the importance of a bike helmet. For over 100 years, the brand has been making helmets that protect cyclists. The partnership with Team Jumbo-Visma gives the company the opportunity to draw attention to the importance of wearing a helmet in a WorldTour race. However, wearing a helmet is not only important in professional cycling. Every cyclist in the world, whether riding a child’s bike, an e-bike, or a racing bike, must protect their head. For Lazer, the brand of the helmet is secondary, as long as one wears a helmet. Sean van Waes, CEO of Lazer: “We would prefer to see many more bike helmets sold worldwide, even by other brands. After all, it’s about protecting cyclists and their health.”
For several years, Lazer and Team Jumbo-Visma have been working together to develop the best protection through bike helmets, with tests and extensive research. The team therefore supports this message and is happy to use its notoriety to raise public awareness. Richard Plugge, General Manager: “Wearing a bike helmet is fortunately no longer an issue in professional cycling, but outside of this environment, it is not yet obvious to wear one. Yet, it can prevent accidents. We think it’s great to raise awareness about this issue as a professional team – with the corresponding reach.”
