The record for the largest GPS drawing made by bike is French

Between October 30 and November 5, four French cyclists took on the crazy challenge of drawing a velociraptor no less than 1025 km long by bike. This practice, known as Strava Art, allowed them to achieve an official world record this week.

It took six days for Maxime Brugère, Florent Arnaud, Franck Delorme, and Nicolas Meunier to bring their project to life. These four cycling friends first created the GPS trace of this velociraptor before setting off on their bikes to complete the challenge over exactly 1,024.72 km, between the Cher and Allier departments.
They completed it after 43 hours, 47 minutes, and 26 seconds of effort. This week, the famous English organization that records and certifies records officially recognized this feat as the record for the largest GPS drawing made by bike.

This activity is part of the unavoidable trend of Strava Art, which consists of drawing a route using Strava’s route creation tool, then following this route on foot or by bike so that the GPS trace recorded during the activity reveals a drawing.
Strava is the leading platform for athletes. With over 100 million members in 190 countries, it is the largest sports community in the world. While many enthusiasts have tried it, the validation of this record confirms that the largest Strava Art is indeed French!

This velociraptor is not the first attempt by the Cyclos Randonneurs Saint-Galmier. Before this Strava Art was rewarded, the group had made two attempts: a tyrannosaurus of 200 km in the Loire department in 2020 and a diplodocus of the same size in 2021 in Saône-et-Loire.

On his Strava activity, Maxime Brugère, the project initiator, explains that these giant dinosaurs are not a random choice: “Dinosaurs are proof that even strong species can disappear quickly, and this is what we are currently experiencing with the sixth mass extinction. We are primarily responsible for this environmental crisis, but also its main victims. As such, the future is in our hands, and cycling is one of the best ways to contribute to change.”
