For Valentine’s Day, Strava and sport want what’s best for you

What if Valentine’s Day was an opportunity to exercise as a couple? Because together we go further and the benefits of shared physical activity are well-established, Strava, the social network for 100 million athletes, provides the keys for an extraordinary February 14th.

WHAT ACTIVITIES TO DO ON FEBRUARY 14TH?

Looking for an original idea for Valentine’s Day? An analysis of public activities uploaded on February 14th over the past four years by Strava’s active community proves that winter sports are popular with duos. Thus, no less than 20% of winter activities (skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, and snowshoeing) are practiced by couples on Valentine’s Day. Walking and hiking come next, practiced by two people in 14% of cases, followed by bike rides in 13% of cases.

BEING ACTIVE, AN ASSET FOR COUPLES!

While there are benefits to exercising together on Valentine’s Day, this also applies to the rest of the year. A 2017 study even revealed that couples who walk together develop their empathy. Practicing an activity together promotes natural attitudes of cooperation (as opposed to competition), increases attention span, and encourages discussion. Furthermore, the Strava Year in Sport 2022 report proves that active couples recorded longer activities in duration and distance than solo active individuals.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • The most popular hike for couples in France is La Bollosa a l’Estany de Vallel in the Pyrenees. 31% of people who do it, do it as a couple.
  • In France, as in most countries around the world, active couples prefer the first part of the day for their activities. Thus, duos start their activities at 9:00 AM, 10:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 11:00 AM, or noon.
  • Younger people are most likely to record a shared activity on Strava on Valentine’s Day. Generation Z couples (13-25 years old) account for 13% of Strava activities on this special day.

To find ideas for activities or outings for February 14th, Strava offers walking and hiking routes generated according to profiles in the Maps tab. It is even possible to trace your own heart-shaped route and thus share a first Strava Art with your significant other.
