On February 1, 2023, Red Bull and the German professional cycling team BORA-hansgrohe launched “Red Bull Junior Brothers,” an international talent scouting program aimed at discovering the next generation of professional road cyclists. At the end of the program, two riders will secure a Red Bull athlete contract and a spot on Team Auto Eder (BORA – hansgrohe’s official U19 junior team).
To try their luck at becoming a Red Bull Junior Brother, candidates must record their performances on the Zwift or Strava platforms from February 1 to May 31, 2023. Only young people born between 2006 and 2007 (16 to 18 years old) will be eligible.
On Strava, they will be asked to give their best on 1 to 2 very specific segments per country. In France, participants will have to tackle Alpe d’Huez and/or La Planche des Belles Filles.
On Zwift, 5 routes well known by Zwifters for their difficulty in terms of elevation gain have been defined: Ven-Top, Alpe du Zwift, Epic KOM, Epic KOM Reverse and Innsbruck KOM.
The best in the age group on each Strava segment, as well as the top 5 on each Zwift route, can apply by filling out this form. The 15 most powerful riders will participate in a training camp in August 2023 at Red Bull’s Athlete Performance Center (APC) in Austria, and in September 2023, the names of the 2 winners of the program will be revealed.

Anton Palzer, Red Bull athlete and professional cyclist for the BORA – hansgrohe team, is delighted: “Red Bull Junior Brothers is a unique opportunity to become a professional cyclist, an incredible chance to shine. Talents can come from anywhere in the world. I look forward to meeting the two new cyclists who will join Auto Eder, the BORA – hansgrohe junior team.”
Ralph Denk, team manager of BORA – hansgrohe, adds: “This is the first time Red Bull has been involved in a global road cycling project, and I am proud that it is with BORA – hansgrohe. Also, for us, this program is a significant step forward in terms of scouting. Thanks to the Red Bull Junior Brothers, we can now expand our scouting area worldwide and even reach talents who would not normally participate in competitions.”
For his part, Dr. Christian Schrot, Head of Scouting and Development at BORA – hansgrohe, stated: “Selected candidates will be asked to prove their talent, strength, and ability to pursue a career as a professional cyclist. Being part of a professional team is not for everyone and requires unwavering dedication and total commitment.”
