The new Mavic Cosmic Ultimate 45 Disc is positioned at the very top of the French manufacturer’s range and aims for excellence at all levels, as evidenced by its characteristics. Resulting from three years of research by in-house composite materials engineers, it is designed and handmade in France. Each wheel requires eight hours of work to position and assemble the 71 carbon parts that compose it.

In terms of weight, Mavic achieves an excellent result. Indeed, even though the rims are Tubeless compatible and feature a 45 mm rim depth, the pair is announced at 1255 g (680 g for the rear and 575 g for the front).
Each rim weighs 403 g according to the manufacturer. The external width is 28 mm, while the internal width (hook to hook) is 19 mm. Ideally, 25 mm tires are suitable for these dimensions.

In terms of manufacturing, ten skilled people specifically trained for the model will ensure the quality of assembly.
Extensive resistance tests have been carried out on these Ultimate wheels. They include 409 impact tests and 470 fatigue resistance tests, particularly at the spoke attachment points.

The rim and hub are connected with carbon spokes (20 at the front and the same at the rear) that are non-stretch and glued, offering resistance up to 6000 Newtons, which means that two spokes could lift a car. They are elliptical and pre-formed, and their handmade UD carbon manufacturing is patented. Mavic announces a homogeneous tension of 150 daN.

Aerodynamics are not left out, with extensive wind tunnel studies and particular attention paid to the hub flanges.
In addition, 66 prototypes and eight different constructions were tested before arriving at the final result.
Due to all these characteristics, the final price of the wheelset has been set at €3900.
