Selle Italia’s Model X and Model X Comfort+ saddles have received the Design & Innovation Award, a prize for the most innovative products in the cycling industry. Both saddles are produced using Greentech, a technology that enables the creation of products with a low environmental impact.

Introduced by Selle Italia in 2020, Greentech technology enables the creation of products with a low environmental impact, that are eco-sustainable, quick to produce, and competitively priced. The saddles produced with this technology are the Model X, high-performance products mechanically assembled without the use of adhesives and polyurethanes, substances known to have a strong environmental impact.
The products competing for this award are tested by a team of professionals and experts from the cycling industry, who then determine the winners in the different categories. By awarding the prize in the Equipment Off-road category, the jury wanted to highlight the innovative and sustainable nature of the Model X and Model X Comfort+ saddles. In the jury’s reasoning, attention was drawn to the Greentech production technology, an approach to bicycle saddle construction that completely eliminates the use of polluting elements such as glues and synthetic resins, and involves no waste as scraps and waste are reintroduced into the production cycle. The entire saddle production process, patented by the Italian company, is also “zero kilometer” as it involves companies located within a 15-kilometer radius of its headquarters: an additional element to reduce CO2 emissions into the environment.
The jury also noted the possibility of fully recycling the saddle at the end of its life: once the product is returned to the company, the rail will be removed, and the remaining parts will be reintroduced into the production process of new Model X saddles.
