Designed for high-performance competition, with the goal of being the most aerodynamic cycling sunglasses ever produced by POC, the Propel are lightweight, with a large lens and an exceptional field of vision. Their aerodynamics give them a competitive advantage.

The result of meticulous computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research, the Propel feature a unique lens and frame to reduce air resistance and optimize airflow relative to the rider’s body position.

Tilda Håll, Eyewear Manager for POC, explains about the Propel glasses: “As part of our Aero initiative, we wanted to exploit the aerodynamic potential of eyewear. The smallest gains are important in the world of professional cycling: every watt saved can make a difference. We carried out numerous CFD tests to develop and optimize our ideas. The results led us to design these glasses taking into account the riders’ body position. The Propel are the most aerodynamic glasses we have ever created.”

The Propel are specifically designed to fit close to the face, with a wrap-around feel and a frame that guides air to avoid the riders’ ears. This precise airflow management optimizes aerodynamics by guiding air over the shoulders, rather than letting the riders’ ears cause turbulence. This smooths airflow and improves the riders’ aerodynamic profile.

In comparative CFD tests with other high-performance POC glasses, the Propel always come out on top, saving energy and offering a new, more aerodynamic design. In addition, the Propel have a unique Clarity lens with a very wrap-around shape that ensures an exceptional field of vision. It increases peripheral vision and the ability to see dangers to react more quickly.

Debut at the Tour Down Under

The Propel glasses made their competition debut during the Tour Down Under, used by both EF Education First teams.

About the Propel, EF Education -TIBCO – SVB Manager Rachel Hedderman explains: “Performance is crucial when we are playing with such small margins. It is essential that the equipment we use contributes to our success. Knowing that what we use is incredibly technical and finely tuned, designed to support us and optimize our efforts motivates us to work even harder.”

EF Education – EasyPost Manager Jonathan Vaughters adds: “In cycling, we usually say “if it looks fast, it is fast”. This sums up the Propel glasses well. Of course, the aerodynamic work on the model is very important, but the shape of the lens and the amplitude of the field of vision are also incredible confidence factors when riders are riding in a tight peloton.”

Product Details

Developed using computational fluid dynamics, wind tunnel testing, and rider feedback, the Propel sunglasses offer an aerodynamic advantage. They also feature a carefully developed wrap-around Clarity lens to ensure optimal vision at all times.

Featuring a biogrilamid frame, they come with three nose pad sizes that ensure a secure and comfortable fit for every rider. Finally, the temples are fully adjustable in length and grip for incomparable comfort.
