Wout van Aert’s new cyclocross bike

Due to a change of equipment supplier, Wout van Aert debuted his new cyclocross bike on January 3rd at the Herentals event, where he finished second behind Mathieu van der Poel after a puncture on the last lap. The Belgian champion in the discipline keeps his Cervélo R5 CX, but it is now equipped with a Sram Red eTap 1x groupset and Reserve wheels with 35/39 mm rim depth.

For 2023, Team Jumbo-Visma remains loyal to Cervélo, but switches from Shimano to Sram.
Compared to Gravel, tires are limited to a 33 mm width in cyclocross. Tubulars allow for riding with very low pressure, for grip.
Wout van Aert’s bike features a decoration in the colors of his Belgian champion’s jersey, even though he is not expected to defend his title on January 15th.
The Vision Metron handlebar is aero-profiled on its upper part.
Wout van Aert rides with a 46-tooth single chainring.
The two shift levers are only used for the rear derailleur, as the bike has a single chainring.
