Launch of the BH Aerolight 2023

The new BH Aerolight is a bike that combines lightness – the raison d’être of the BH Ultralight – and aerodynamics – a remarkable specificity of the BH G8. It features a new style, with a new, specifically shaped fork. The BH Aerolight is the convergence of two paths. Two different ways of approaching road bikes. Aerodynamics and lightness. Do you have to choose between the two? Here is BH’s answer to that question.

Aerodynamics has been one of the main characteristics of every new product launched by BH in recent years. Seasons of knowledge acquisition represent the best way to gain seconds without expending extra energy. The accumulated experience, thanks to hundreds of hours of simulations and prototypes, now makes the BH Aerolight possible. The frame is made of tubes that incorporate the Kamm Tail shape already used in the past and now applied wherever possible on the bike. The teardrop section cut in height, given to each tube, is the best solution for achieving optimal aerodynamic efficiency.

Air Bow, a step forward in aerodynamics

The shape of the BH Aerolight fork is part of the Air Bow concept which has improved the overall aerodynamics of the bike. The same concept has been applied to the rear triangle. The dimension of the inner area between the wheel and the fork has been maximized with the aim of circulating air between these two parts. Thanks to the extra space, air resistance is reduced, thus generating less turbulence. The result on the road? An improved air penetration coefficient of 15.9%. This results in a saving of 5 W at high speed. In addition, the Air Bow concept helps eliminate road vibrations, giving you more control and comfort while riding, without affecting performance.

950 g, low weight and stiffness for an aero frame

When developing the new Aerolight, the objective was clear: to create a frame with aerodynamic lines, while maintaining a low weight and a high level of stiffness, essential characteristics of any competition bike.

The carbon layup has been fully optimized, with the thickness of each point studied to obtain the best possible stiffness-to-weight ratio. In addition, by using the HCIM (Hollow Core Internal Moulding) manufacturing technique, a frame without any internal imperfections has been created. Less material means less weight, but not less performance. The result is a frame with aerodynamic lines for a weight of only 950 g.

Total integration

The new handlebar/stem assembly forms a block with clean lines in continuity with the head tube which, with the fully integrated cabling, also improves its aerodynamics and appearance. This integration design is also reflected in the seatpost and its locking system incorporated into the frame, which adds stiffness and helps improve aerodynamics. Other specific features contribute to the clean look, such as the fully hidden lever wheel quick releases that require no tools. The Aerolight universe is enriched with a range of accessories that perfectly match the shape of the frame and preserve its aerodynamics. A hydration system consisting of a bottle and a bottle cage has been specifically designed: it does not hinder airflow and complements the Aerolight Toolbox. In addition, road safety being paramount, a rear position light discreetly integrated into the seatpost has been designed.
