UCI Cycling Esports World Championships February 18, 2023

Zwift, the global online training platform for cyclists, and the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) are pleased to announce that the next UCI Cycling Esports World Championships will take place on February 18, 2023.

This 3rd edition will consist of three short and explosive events: The Punch, The Climb, and The Podium, which will be contested on three distinct courses. This innovation will enhance the spectacular and thrilling nature of this flagship annual Esports cycling event, further engaging its fan community.

This new format will be the same for men and women, with both pelotons comprising a maximum of 100 riders who will have earned their place during the qualifying stages.

The “The Punch” route will challenge both pelotons on a 13.8 km race featuring hilly terrain. This first event is crucial as only the first 30 men and the first 30 women will remain in contention after it.

The remaining 30 riders in both categories will start “The Climb,” the second race. Another short-format event where they will have to repeat ascents on a course totaling 8.5 km and 162 m of elevation gain. The first 10 to cross the finish line of the event will secure their spot for the final race.

This final, named “Podium,” will take place on a circuit featuring short but complex climbs where riders will engage with the 1st place in sight. At each arch passage, one rider will be eliminated until only three riders remain. These last three will then compete until the finish to determine who will wear the famous rainbow jersey.

The startlist for the 2023 UCI Cycling Esports World Championships is expected to be unveiled in early 2023. National team recruitment began last weekend with the UCI Continental Qualifiers hosted by Zwift.
