The French Cycling Tourism Federation’s rant against road violence

The French Cycling Tourism Federation condemns the call for violence against cyclists made during prime time by a public figure on a public television channel. It states that the increasing number of attacks on cyclists in recent years cannot be legitimized.

In its press release, the French Cycling Tourism Federation emphasizes that new unacceptable acts were committed again this weekend in Gironde: four cyclists were violently and deliberately hit by a motorist. Already in 2017, the Federation joined the “Mon vélo est une vie” (My bike is a life) movement to raise awareness for better coexistence among all road users, and to educate about the protection of cyclists against road dangers.

Since then, it has continuously intervened with public authorities. Today, at a time when active mobility and bicycle use are developing, with a strong deployment of cycling education for younger generations, the situation is alarming. Thus, the French Cycling Tourism Federation supports the amendment proposed by Bruno Studer, the deputy for Bas-Rhin, which aims to strengthen criminal penalties against intentional harm to cyclists and other vulnerable users perpetrated by motorists.

For a safer road!

The Federation continues to act in favor of a peaceful sharing of roads and public spaces throughout the territory. In this context, it trains and informs local authorities, the general public, and young people about good infrastructure, practices, and useful reflexes for cyclists, but also essential for motorists. The French Cycling Tourism Federation calls for a major mobilization for the safety of all road users.
