Zwift, the global online fitness platform for athletes, is thrilled to announce the return of the Zwift Academy Triathlon program for 2022. The largest online triathlon training program will once again offer triathletes from six age groups the opportunity to qualify for the Zwift Academy Triathlon Team in 2023.
Benefiting from professional-level support in their quest for success at the IRONMAN World Championships, the Zwift team is recognized as the best-supported amateur triathlon team. This year, the team takes another leap forward thanks to the support of Canyon, SRAM, and ZIPP, all of whom become official partners of the program.
Canyon joins the program as the official bike partner, providing all team members with a state-of-the-art Canyon Speedmax, which will be custom-painted in Germany for each athlete. Canyon will provide each athlete with technical assistance and knowledge from its team in Koblenz, including bike fittings, aerodynamic validation tests in the velodrome, and technical briefings. Canyon will also provide technical support to the team during training camps and in Kona.
The Zwift Academy Triathlon, now in its fourth year, has already proven to be a springboard to professional ranks. Ruth Astle graduated from the Zwift Academy program in 2019 and turned professional the following year. Ruth finished fifth at the 2022 IRONMAN World Championships, held in St. George, Utah.
Canyon’s support for the team competing in 2023 is an additional incentive for selected triathletes to perform at the highest level. Canyon seeks to discover the next generation of professional talent and will closely monitor the performance of Zwift Academy Tri team members in 2023.
“We are proud to join the Zwift Academy Triathlon and support these athletes in their preparation for Kona,” said Markus Fachbach, Head of Brand and Marketing at Canyon. “We hope that by working with Zwift, we will be able to discover hidden talents in a global pool of athletes, a concept we have already validated together through the Zwift Academy Road.”
SRAM and ZIPP also joined the program in 2022. SRAM will equip all athletes with a SRAM Red eTap AXS groupset, including Quarq power meters, and will also provide technical support during training camps and in Kona. ZIPP will provide the team with wheels for the entire season, including ZIPP 303 Firecrest wheels, Zipp 858 NSW race wheels, and a Super 9 Disc wheel.
The Zwift Academy Tri opens six spots on the team for 2023. Each selected athlete will benefit from the full support of Canyon, SRAM, and ZIPP, and many other brands, as well as invaluable mentorship from Tim Don and Sarah True.
Athletes wishing to secure a spot on the Zwift Academy Tri team must complete the full Zwift Academy Tri program. The program is designed to help athletes of all levels assess their fitness, push their limits, and acquire new training methods that will help them stay fit and get faster by the end of the academy. This year’s academy has been enhanced to allow more triathletes to participate and consists of three cycling workouts and three running workouts designed by renowned multisport coach Dr. Dan Plews. In addition to these workouts, athletes must also complete two Finish Line Workouts, one running and one cycling, with options including shorter and longer distances. Those aiming for a spot on the team must complete the longer workouts. All workouts will be available either in groups or on-demand, allowing Zwifters to follow the program on their own schedule.
Registration for the 2022 Zwift Tri Academy is now open, and the program begins on October 24.
