On Saturday, October 7, 2022, with bib number 122 firmly attached to her trisuit, American Cherie Gruenfeld, 78, crossed the finish line of the Hawaii Ironman in 16:20:07. To achieve this performance, she swam in 1:30:20, covered the 180 km bike course in 7:36:04, and ran her marathon in 6:57:53.
Cherie won her 75-79 age group, ahead of her compatriot Natalie Grabow in 16:48:53.
Cherie also became the oldest female finisher in the history of the Hawaii Ironman and was, for this, cheered by the Kona crowd. A legendary finish line she has already crossed more than 20 times. Hats off, congratulations, and respect, Mrs. Gruenfeld!
