The importance of tires on a bike is paramount, whether in terms of performance, grip, or durability, whether you’re a top-level competitor or a Sunday cyclist. In 1976, the first Specialized product wasn’t a bike, but a tire, proving the importance Mike Sinyard, the brand’s creator, placed on this component. Specialized is now introducing the new S-Works Turbo tire range, claiming they are the fastest, most responsive, and most durable tires they have ever made.

In addition to its bikes and frames, Specialized produces almost all accessories for cycling, unlike most competing brands. The same goes for tires, of which the new S-Works Turbo range is the flagship. Engineers have created nothing less than a new rubber compound – which they call GRIPTON® T2 – to reduce rolling resistance, improve grip, and increase the durability of their new tires. This compound, placed on the center of the tread, is combined with another proven rubber type, T5, on the tire’s shoulders, again to optimize grip and traction in corners.

The new S-Works Turbo RapidAir 2BR
The previous iteration of the S-Works Turbo RapidAir 2BR made tubeless history on the Tour in 2019 with multiple stage victories, a stint in yellow, and a green jersey on the Champs Élysées. It’s the tire that almost definitively buried the tubular for World Tour teams equipped by Specialized. The addition of the new T2/T5 tread further increases the performance of a tubeless tire already renowned for its excellent efficiency.

A pair of the new 26mm S-Works Turbo RapidAir 2BR tires would save 2 watts of rolling resistance compared to the previous tire, and add approximately 1000 kilometers of lifespan. For a weight of 230g. With the new hybrid Kevlar BlackBelt protection under the tread, the brand also announces a 12% increase in puncture protection.
