The stem faceplate on R5 and Caledonia-5 models can cause the handlebar to rotate despite recommended torque levels being applied, potentially leading to a fall. The brand is issuing a recall for a free replacement of the potentially defective part.
Safety and quality are absolute priorities for Cervélo. As part of its commitment to its customers and dealers, Cervélo has determined that the stem faceplates on certain R5 and Caledonia-5 models do not meet its quality standards.
Despite the brand’s attention to the quality and finish of its products, Cervélo has found that the stem faceplate on certain R5 and Caledonia-5 models could cause the handlebar to rotate despite recommended torque levels being applied, potentially leading to a fall.

The models concerned are certain Caledonia-5 models sold on or after May 1, 2021, and R5 models launched on or after September 28, 2021.
The easiest way to determine if a bike or stem sold after these dates is equipped with the defective faceplate is to perform a visual inspection. The stem faceplate shown in red below is the part to be replaced, while the faceplate shown in blue/green below corresponds to the compliant part. (The stem faceplate with more surface area is the correct one).

Therefore, Cervélo is conducting a voluntary recall of 2022 model year Cervélo R5 bikes and certain Caledonia-5 bikes, and Cervélo ST31 LT stems.
If you own a bike equipped with a Cervélo stem whose faceplate matches the one illustrated in red above, please stop using it immediately. Contact your authorized Cervélo dealer for a free replacement with the model illustrated in green above.
