After the great success of the 2021 edition, the French Triathlon Federation renews its confidence in the Saint-Jean-de-Monts Vendée Triathlon Athlétisme club to organize the Triathlon Grand Prix final in the first two divisions, as well as the French Paratriathlon Championship. Indeed, the commune is both labeled “Ville sportive 4 flammes” (4-flame sports city) for its sporting and associative dynamism (36 sports associations), and also the city voted the most bicycle-friendly in France in its category (city < 10,000 inhabitants) by the French Federation of Bicycle Users (FUB). Not to mention its “Terre de Jeux Paris 2024” label, aimed at bringing the Olympic Games to everyone and supporting high-level athletes. Moreover, Saint-Jean-de-Monts has signed an agreement with the FFA to be the base camp for the French Marathon team. The organizing club is accustomed to major events, with the Trail des Pays des Monts at the end of February, but especially with the return of its unmissable Triathlon which – after two complicated years due to the health crisis – was able to take place again at the end of June for the 37th time! The thousand participants and the popular enthusiasm for this event suggest an even greater mobilization for the flagship event of French Triathlon in 2022.

Léo Bergère and the world triathlon elite will be present

The organizing club (French Champion in 2018) also counts among its team the most prestigious ambassador of the discipline, Léo Bergère. The Montois athlete won in the most beautiful way at the European Championships in Munich last August, taking both the individual title and the team title with the French team! He will logically be the favorite for the DN1 men’s final this Saturday, September 10. A final that will attract the biggest names in world triathlon, both men and women. (Start-List to come). For the French Paratriathlon Championship, which will take place the following day, Sunday, September 11, the stars will also be present, notably Alexis Hanquinquant, Olympic champion last year and European champion in 2022, and of course, local hero Gwladys Lemoussu, Olympic medalist in 2016 in Rio and Vice-European Champion in 2022.

Broadcast on giant screen

All these champions will therefore meet on the seafront of the seaside resort for this Sprint format Triathlon, featuring 750 m of swimming in the sea and specific support for paratriathletes. The 4 km long and completely flat bike course will run along the seafront and will consist of 5 laps, while the run will be made up of 2 loops of 2.5 km with a finish line at the foot of the Ferris wheel. In short, a spectacular seafront location to allow the best visibility and accessibility for the public. In addition, a live broadcast is planned on a giant screen placed on the esplanade, and the “Sport en France” channel will also broadcast the race live for those who cannot attend this final in person. The apotheosis of the Grand Prix season will be experienced this weekend in Saint-Jean-de-Monts!
