Remco Evenepoel dominates the Vuelta time trial with a helmet he helped develop

Remco Evenepoel won the Vuelta time trial, dominating his opponents, especially the defending champion of the Spanish event, Primoz Roglic (2nd at 48 seconds). The Belgian thus strengthened his position as leader in the general classification. A victory achieved with cutting-edge equipment, including a Specialized S-Works TT5 helmet that he helped develop with the brand’s engineers.

After a breathtaking race, Remco Evenepoel solidified his lead in the general classification of the Vuelta, winning the 10th stage time trial (30.9 km) at an incredible average speed of 55.6 km/h. For comparison, when the entire Jumbo-Visma team won the first stage team time trial over only 23 km, they could only go one km/h faster than Evenepoel solo over a longer distance.

The star product of the day is the brand new S-Works TT5 helmet, which was designed in close collaboration with the Belgian rider. The helmet and Evenepoel are one in his aggressive time trial position, saving him up to 26 seconds over a 40 km time trial compared to the old model, according to calculations by the brand’s engineers and after multiple wind tunnel and field tests.

“The product team has dedicated countless hours to developing the new S-Works TT5. Most of that time was spent in the field with Remco to develop this helmet, hoping to experience exactly this kind of exceptional moment: defending a leader’s jersey in a Grand Tour. A holistic approach to aerodynamics is essential, and it is visible in how it integrates into Remco’s position on his time trial bike, to help maintain as clean an airflow as possible over his back. The satisfaction felt by the product team in seeing him perform on the rider who played a key role in the helmet’s development is enormous,” says Alex Jerome, Specialized Helmet Product Manager.
