New Shimano 105 Di2: The Big News!

To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Shimano 105 groupset finally goes Di2, like the higher-end Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets. A wireless electronic drivetrain with 12 speeds thus becomes more accessible for a new category of riders.

The technology and innovations inherited from the recent Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets are now available at a more attractive price with the new Shimano 105 Di2 groupset. The 105 Di2 offers reliable (and wireless) shifting, an extra gear (with 12 speeds), and a super safe braking system, which can finally be adopted by everyone.

The new Shimano 105 Di2 thus benefits from the following advancements:

    • An evolved Di2 platform – A completely redesigned Di2 system that offers fast shifting with a wireless cockpit.
    • A more advanced drivetrain – Optimized 12-speed shifting for unparalleled efficiency and a better choice of ratios.
    • A redesigned interface and ergonomics – With an optimal balance between comfort, aerodynamics, and aesthetics, the Shimano 105 offers a better grip, comfortable ergonomics, and an even cleaner cockpit.
    • An improved braking system – The new Shimano 105 braking system offers a quieter, more controllable, and easier-to-maintain package.

Wireless where it matters most

Just like the Dura-Ace and Ultegra Di2 groupsets, the Shimano 105 Di2 features a hybrid system, with a wireless cockpit combined with a wired connection between a single battery stored in the seat tube and the front and rear derailleurs, for absolute reliability in all conditions. The groupset is customizable using the E-TUBE PROJECT app on your smartphone. The app allows you to configure your drivetrain as you wish, adjust the shifting speed, select the number of gears shifted by a single action on the control, and use the synchronized or semi-synchronized functionalities. With the Shimano 105 Di2, you can also connect your drivetrain to most modern bike computers to monitor battery status or the engaged gear.

Redesigned interface and ergonomics

The new Shimano 105 levers offer revised ergonomics and design based on feedback from professional cyclists. The hoods are raised, and a new lever shape improves comfort and control in all riding positions. Braking is also optimized thanks to a smoother lever movement, for greater softness or modulation of the brakes. The new shifters work with an exclusive Shimano wireless connection that offers fast processing speed and low power consumption. Thanks to a single rechargeable battery housed in the frame, charging is simple and the battery is protected.

12 speeds for all levels

With 12 speeds, the Shimano 105 R7100 groupset offers smooth and progressive gearing, with optimization of the most used tooth counts. Cassette options are 11-34 and 11-36, and 50-34 and 52-36 teeth for the crankset. The combination of the two offers highly versatile gear ratios, with a 1:1 ratio. The new Shimano 105 Di2 components are backward compatible with 11-speed freehub bodies.

Improved braking

The new Shimano 105 benefits from a quieter, easier-to-maintain braking system that offers more control and power. Key improvements include a shorter lever stroke to reach the contact point faster and a 10% increase in pad-to-rotor clearance to reduce noise. Mechanics will appreciate the simplified bleeding system, which can be done without removing the caliper from the frame thanks to separate bleed and valve screws.

New RS710 carbon wheels

With the aim of making the latest technologies accessible, Shimano is also launching two pairs of carbon wheels: the C32 for climbing and the C46 for versatile use. Both share the DNA of the C36 and C50 Dura-Ace and Ultegra wheels, for a good balance between aerodynamics, lightness, and stiffness.

The C32 model features a 32 mm deep, 21 mm wide rim and weighs 1502 g. The C46 version has a 46 mm deep, 21 mm wide rim and weighs 1610 g. These wheels are 11 and 12-speed compatible, tubeless, and benefit from an attractive design.
