Jai Hindley’s custom Specialized bikes, 2022 Giro winner

Jai Hindley (Bora-Hansgrohe) is the first Australian rider to win the Giro. It is also the German team’s first Grand Tour victory. This was an opportunity for equipment manufacturer Specialized to prepare two special bikes: the first, which Hindley used during the final time trial in the streets of Verona, and the second, which celebrates the machine that allowed him to battle on the climbs of the Italian race.

For the final Giro time trial, Specialized and Bora-Hansgrohe prepared a custom bike for Jai Hindley.

When Jai Hindley crossed the finish line in Verona, he made history. He became the first Bora-Hansgrohe rider to win a Grand Tour, the first Australian to win the Giro, and the first rider to win a Grand Tour on the Specialized Tarmac SL7.

The pink logos celebrate the famous Italian race.
The Shiv TT is one of the most efficient bikes in the peloton.
Even the Australian rider’s Wahoo bike computer is customized.

After a narrow second place in 2020, losing the pink jersey on the last day during the time trial, Jai was particularly determined in 2022. Not only did he win the ninth stage at Blockhaus, but he took the pink jersey after a decisive attack in the final kilometers of the penultimate stage, securing a 1’25” lead over Richard Carapaz before the final day.

This pink Tarmac SL7 has officially never been ridden in competition. But it was with this equipment that Hindley took the pink jersey during the penultimate stage.
The Tarmac SL7 here is equipped with Roval Alpinist CLX wheels and tubeless tires.
Even the bar tape is customized.
The Bora-Hansgrohe Tarmac SL7 is equipped with the Shimano Dura-Ace 12-speed groupset, but the team still uses 11-speed cranksets due to availability issues.

During the mountain stages, the Australian rode his Tarmac SL7 with the brand new Roval Alpinist CLX II wheels and tubeless tires. For the final time trial, Jai Hindley rode the Shiv TT, specially decorated for the occasion with pink logos.
