Heirs to more than two decades of innovation, the new Specialized S-Works Torch shoes have been seen on the feet of some professional riders since the beginning of the season. They are now available to the general public, and feature several notable evolutions compared to the S-Works 7 they replace in the catalog.

“How to best connect the cyclist’s body to the bike? How to most effectively link biology to machines?” These are the questions that Specialized engineers have been asking themselves for over twenty years, since the launch of the first S-Works shoes, whose various evolutions over the years have followed the knowledge and experience gained in the field, particularly with professionals. S-Works shoes have won five of the last six world championships. Today, the iconic S-Works 7 model (launched in 2018) passes the torch to the S-Works Torch shoes.

An evolution of the sole
Drawing on information gathered from over 100,000 foot scans using Retül positioning technology, Specialized recognized that two different last shapes, narrow and wide, would suit a wider range of foot shapes. The brand has therefore redesigned two new carbon soles that are respectively 4 and 7 mm wider than the S-Works 7. The new “pie crust” sole contour reduces flex and thus eliminates the accumulation of bulky materials around the perimeter of the sole for a simplified construction. An internal I-beam structure adds stiffness and strength without the need for additional reinforcement. The result is a 20-gram weight reduction, increased efficiency, and immediate power transfer.

Asymmetrical Heel
Following RETÜL biomechanical data, the brand has created an asymmetrical heel cup that maintains essential knee alignment and provides the support cyclists love, all while improving comfort by adapting to a wider range of foot shapes.

Ergonomically designed upper
Still guided by RETÜL positioning data, Specialized has refined every detail of the S-Works Torch upper to achieve improved fit and performance. For example, the BOA® cable has been shifted down and angled to prevent arch lift in the shoe. This evolution allowed for the removal of the S-Works 7’s front Velcro® while providing a power-enhancing structure and eliminating unwanted pressure or pinching. Soft materials allow for natural foot movement where needed for comfort, while the reinforced area keeps the foot locked in for optimal power and efficiency. The reinforcement on the big toe makes the most of the pulling phase of the pedal stroke.

And still the Body Geometry concept
For nearly two decades, Specialized has been obsessed with ensuring that every contact point between the rider and their bike provides optimal performance and no pain. For shoes, the brand has developed three patented technologies to deliver comfort, power, and efficiency.
- Varus Wedge: With an integrated 1.5mm Varus Wedge, Body Geometry shoes stabilize the natural movement of your forefoot and improve foot, knee, and hip alignment, which increases power and adds an average of 10 seconds to your ability to perform at maximum intensity.
- Longitudinal Arch Support: The foot is built like a leaf spring. Ideal for running. Bad for riding. Body Geometry shoes are designed with patented molded arch support in the outsole to create a rigid structure that, combined with custom insoles, prevents foot collapse and increases power.
- Metatarsal Button: Ready to banish hot spots and numbness? By lifting and separating the forefoot bones, the metatarsal button prevents compression of nearby nerves and arteries, so you can say goodbye to these problems that afflict so many cyclists.
