New 3T Exploro Ultra Gravel

A third Exploro frame joins the 3T Gravel range. The Exploro Ultra completes the Exploro Pro (the original), the Exploro RaceMax (the 2-in-1: Race in 700C and Max in 650B) and becomes the third frame designed for the discipline.

How is the Ultra positioned? At the extreme end of the range, on the heels of where some mountain bikes go. It retains the aerodynamic advantages of other Exploro models with wider tire clearance.

The Ultra is also suitable for 35 to 61 mm WAM (width as measured) tires, and it is optimized for the upper end of this spectrum. As original equipment, the Exploro Ultra has a WAM (width as measured) of 41 mm in 700C and 57 mm in 650B. However, it is possible to mount larger tires if you wish, up to 61 mm in 650B and 45 mm in 700C.

Aerodynamics, dear to Gérard Vroomen, remains a central point, but adjustments were necessary. The down tube, which redirects airflow from the front tire, is wider on the Ultra than on the RaceMax. Other changes include a slightly adjusted geometry, with the chainstays length increased by 4 millimeters.

The new seat tube is aerodynamic like on the RaceMax with a rounded cutout like on the RaceMax. This cutout is larger to accommodate larger 700C tires.

Let’s elaborate on this last point because it is a big step forward for the Exploro Ultra. The frame accommodates a round seatpost with a 27.2 mm diameter. This provides a gain in comfort thanks to the flexibility of this diameter or the possibility of mounting an eeSlik post. This shape also allows the Ultra to be the first Exploro compatible with dropper seatposts. 3T even offers this accessory on its most extreme build in collaboration with Crankbrothers.
