The four-season version of the P Zero tubed tires is hitting the market. Pirelli is launching the P Zero Race 4S, a comprehensive performance tire designed for road bikes. The P Zero Race 4S already has a significant record to its name: it is Pirelli’s first 100% Made in Italy product since its return to cycling in 2017. In fact, the new tire was manufactured in the renovated Bollate factory, 10 km from the Milan Bicocca headquarters. Inaugurated in 1963 for the production of car tires, the factory has been converted to house the new high-tech production line dedicated to Pirelli Velo’s most performing models. It is currently undergoing both aesthetic and functional renovation.
The P Zero Race 4S takes over from its predecessor, the P Zero Velo 4S, which was praised for its excellent characteristics across the board, particularly in cold weather, and with the performance of a competition compound. Pirelli’s technicians therefore started with an already very well-received product, with the aim of improving it even further, increasing its durability, rolling smoothness, and reliability.
The new P Zero Race 4S confirms its winter performance and increases it, compared to its predecessor, in terms of durability, especially in summer.
A four-season tire with a race feel
Like the P Zero Race and Race SL, the other tires in the P Zero Race family, the Race 4S tire uses the new proprietary SmartEVO compound, which is characterized by a ternary blend of “intelligent” polymers, designed to provide high levels of performance in terms of grip, conditions of use, rolling resistance, and rubber responsiveness, even in the harshest climates.
The Milanese company’s engineering team has enhanced the characteristic qualities of the compound, specifically for four-season use, thanks to meticulous design work on the tread pattern. The angles, depth, quantity, and spacing of Pirelli’s characteristic “Flash” sculptures have been optimized to improve ground contact, and therefore grip, on slippery and uneven surfaces.
Like all other tires in the P Zero Race family, the new Race 4S also features a casing adapted to the new wider rim standards. Consequently, due to the construction and the resulting dimension adaptation, each tire size has a wider tread compared to the corresponding P Zero Velo 4S: a wider and shorter footprint, promoting rolling smoothness, puncture resistance, and cornering control.
The new P Zero Race 4S is ideal for anyone who wants a high-performance four-season tire, offering a race feel all year round, during races as well as training. This is why the World Tour teams partnered with Pirelli have chosen it. UAE Team Emirates, TREK-Segafredo, and AG2R Citroën tested these new tires during recent winter training camps.
As will be the case for all Pirelli Velo products coming out of the Bollate factory, each P Zero Race 4S undergoes rigorous quality control and is equipped with a barcode, referencing the batch and manufacturing period, in addition to providing useful data for tracing each unit produced. The P Zero Race 4S is already available on the market in the tubed version, in 700×26 and 700×28, at a recommended price of €69.90. It will be available in wider sizes and in a TLR version later.
