Strava Supports the People of Ukraine

Strava has always been a platform that brings athletes together through the power of community. This community is now shaken by a tragic and senseless war. It is important for Strava to show its support for the Ukrainian people and express its full solidarity.

According to the United Nations, more than two million refugees have fled their homes in Ukraine following Russia’s unjust invasion of the country, making this conflict a humanitarian crisis.

After careful consideration, Strava has decided to take the following steps to provide aid and support to the besieged country and the Ukrainian people:

– Humanitarian Aid

Strava provides financial support in the form of donations to humanitarian organizations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, whose mission is to help people affected by the conflict and displaced persons.

– Suspension of Strava Services in Russia and Belarus

Like hundreds of other companies and organizations, Strava believes that the temporary suspension of its services in Russia and Belarus, which may seem insignificant on an individual scale, can contribute to the return of peace if this movement is followed by the greatest number.

– Challenge for Ukraine

Strava has launched the Challenge for Ukraine: the platform invites athletes to show their support by sharing a 5 km activity to collect the badge and inviting their friends to do the same. As part of this challenge, Strava also invites the entire community to donate and support the Red Cross’s efforts here.

– Activity Map in Support of Ukraine

Strava has added a new map type in support of Ukraine for all GPS activities and encourages all athletes to use it as a sign of solidarity with Ukraine.

Even as nations around the world unite to help Ukraine, forms of racism are at play. In Ukraine and neighboring countries, minority refugees are experiencing unequal treatment. Vital safety, freedom from fear and persecution, must apply to all refugees, regardless of their ethnic origin or nationality.

Strava is aware that the suspension of its services in Russia and Belarus will affect its relationship with community members who do not support the totalitarian regime imposed by Vladimir Putin in Russia. Furthermore, the company understands that it may be difficult for some to support Ukraine, given the discriminatory practices reported at the borders against refugees belonging to ethnic minorities. Nevertheless, Strava believes that the goal of a return to peace necessitates action.

Together with the international community, Strava expresses its sincere hope that Ukraine will regain peace and sovereignty.
