New arena Powerskin STORM triathlon wetsuit

The new arena Powerskin Storm Powerskin Storm wetsuit features a cutting-edge design that delivers buoyancy, flexibility and comfort to swimmers and triathletes, so they feel completely free and in harmony with the water. With its eco-friendly Yamamoto limestone neoprene, a premium and highly stretchy material applied in different thicknesses depending on the body zone and its specific needs, the athlete can focus without distraction on one thing only: swimming, like a creature of the ocean.

The result of in-depth scientific research and more than 50 years of in-house expertise in hydrodynamics analysis, the high-tech arena Powerskin Storm wetsuit was developed in close collaboration with the world’s best international open water swimmers, including world and Olympic champions Florian Wellbrock, Gregorio Paltrinieri, Sharon Van Rouwendaal and Ferry Weertman.

Approved for competition by FINA (International Swimming Federation), by World Triathlon (formerly ITU – International Triathlon Union), by USA Triathlon and by the World Triathlon Corporation (rights holder of the Ironman brand), this wetsuit also incorporates carbon fiber, an arena technological innovation. Indeed, the Carbon wetsuit, the most successful open water model of the modern era, served as the starting point for the development of this new model.

Features of the arena Storm wetsuit

The Powerskin Storm is an evolution of the Carbon wetsuit, the most award-winning suit in open water competitions in recent years. It is made entirely with a Yamamoto neoprene lining, super soft and ultra stretchy. It is coated with Nano SCS and incorporates arena’s exclusive carbon fiber technology.

Three different neoprene thicknesses are strategically placed around the wetsuit to address the specific needs of the following body zones:

– 4 mm on the torso, legs and buttocks and 3 mm on the chest and calves to provide better torso support, body hold and stability, as well as thermal insulation;
– 1.5 mm on the arms and shoulders for better flexibility, comfort and great freedom of movement.

This delivers maximum buoyancy and support in the areas that need it, while giving the swimmer great freedom of movement and superior comfort.

Yamamoto eco-friendly limestone neoprene

Traditional petroleum-based neoprene is replaced here by Yamamoto neoprene, which is made from limestone to create a durable, lightweight, eco-friendly and high-performance material that is also incredibly soft, supple and stretchy.

The Powerskin Storm wetsuit is made entirely from this neoprene, which has a closed-cell nitrogen content of over 92%, resulting in a 30% increase in air bubbles in the rubber compared with other brands. This delivers better buoyancy: 23% more than competing materials.

It also has a very low water absorption rate, which means its weight remains almost identical in wet and dry conditions, thus providing more warmth and flexibility than thicker wetsuits, without additional weight.

An optimal design

When the body is immersed in the ocean, it calls on its primal senses as if rediscovering its origins. The skin overflows with energy, the bubbles burst and the body becomes one with the water. The feeling is so strong that it stirs the desire to shed superfluous layers and wear only the bare essentials. Put in those terms, the best thing you can do – apart from a midnight swim – is to pull on the Powerskin Storm wetsuit, which feels so natural that it seems like you are wearing nothing at all.

This feeling is carried through to the design of the wetsuit, whose patterns suggest the water and bubbles flowing around an immersed, moving body. It also evokes the technologies hidden behind the wetsuit (nanotechnology, SCS coating…).

The dragon on the shoulder, for its part, alludes to a magical creature of the deep sea, its curved body following the shape of a wave, the swell of a storm…

Finally, this wetsuit catches the eye; it is elegant and streamlined.

MORE DETAILS

Airlock technology for maximum buoyancy : the 4 mm laminated layer is made up of 3 layers of Yamamoto limestone neoprene. The middle layer is fully perforated, trapping air during the lamination process to provide 30% extra buoyancy without compromising flexibility and freedom of movement. Strategic placement in targeted zones allows maximum buoyancy, an optimal body position and efficient rotation in the water.

A NANO SCS coating for low drag, extraordinary glide and better performance : the Nano SCS (Super Composite Skin) coating of the Yamamoto neoprene does not absorb water, and its micro-cellular structure ensures extremely low drag, thus offering exceptional glide through the water.

Dual use in swimming and triathlon : approved for use at all competition levels of FINA (International Swimming Federation), World Triathlon, the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC – rights holder of the Ironman brand) and USA Triathlon.

  • A SPECIFIC NECKLINE DESIGN FOR ZERO FRICTION

The unique open-neck shape with rolled and flattened edges provides a soft interface with the skin to reduce chafing and prevent irritation.

  • CARBON FIBER FOR IDEAL TORSO SUPPORT

The Airlock neoprene is laminated on the inner surface with a woven carbon fiber fabric, a hallmark of arena wetsuits. This technology, which has already amply proven itself, provides optimal torso support and overall body hold.

  • DURABLE, STRONG AND WATERPROOF SEAMS

All seams are glued with a special compound that makes them completely waterproof. The invisible double stitching ensures maximum strength and durability.

  • AN IMPROVED ZIPPER

For better water sealing and easy use with its classic bottom-to-top operation.

  • LAMINATED NEOPRENE FOR A BETTER FEEL IN THE WATER

The ultra-thin double-laminated neoprene on the inside of the forearms improves the feel of the water during the catch and push phases of the stroke, while being less buoyant than other parts of the wetsuit.

  • HIGHLY STRETCHY NEOPRENE AT THE WRISTS FOR QUICK REMOVAL

The lower legs and wrists are made of ultra-thin, stretchy Yamamoto neoprene, which allows the wetsuit to be put on and taken off very quickly and easily, a key factor for triathletes.
