As soon as the 2020/2021 cyclocross season ended, just as Tom Pidcock began racing with Ineos Grenadiers, Pinarello took on an exciting challenge: developing an all-new cyclocross frame to let him race at the very highest level.

Tom Pidcock joined Ineos Grenadiers at the start of 2021.

The process began in early spring 2021 with Pidcock and his team, led by Kurt Bogaerts, at Pinarello’s headquarters in Treviso. After a first test of the existing Pinarello Crossista, the British rider started working directly with Pinarello’s R&D team to create his next race bike.

In race configuration, the Crossista F weighs just 7.3 kg.

Starting from a very good base, the key areas the designers set out to improve were the top tube design and the front triangle, with the aim of giving him quicker transitions and a more comfortable grip on the running sections, which are so critical in cyclocross races.

The Crossista F was designed to make shouldering the bike easier on the running sections.

A few further improvements were also made to the bottom bracket height
and the frame geometry, for better control and a more precise riding position, allowing Pidcock to make the most of his unrivalled bike-handling skills.

Tom Pidcock uses an 11-speed Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 Disc groupset with 46-39 chainrings and an 11-30 cassette, Dura-Ace C40 wheels and 33 mm Dugast tubulars.

Finally, new internal cable routing and water drainage holes were designed specifically at the rider’s request, to give him the best possible bike for his needs.

The rider uses a Most Talon cockpit, just as on the road.

The first prototypes were tested in Treviso in early September 2021, with a second version delivered just in time for Pidcock’s cyclocross debut in Boom on December 4. Since then, he has taken five podiums and his first win in an elite men’s cyclocross World Cup – a first for a British rider – in Rucphen on December 18, followed by another victory on January 2 in Hulst.

The frame colours echo the stripes of Tom Pidcock’s British champion’s jersey.

This intense period of testing and racing led to a revised carbon layup before the final bike went into production in time for the 2022 cyclocross world championships in Fayetteville.

The Crossista F borrows some of the aerodynamic lines of Pinarello’s Dogma F.

Pidcock’s race bike weighs an astonishing 7.39 kg in this configuration. The first
commercial version of the Crossista F will be available from the fourth quarter of 2022, in a single Tom Pidcock replica colourway, along with two additional colours to be unveiled later this year.
