THE CLIMB Alpe d’Huez reinterprets the legendary ascent of the 21 bends, with a hybrid proposal: an individual challenge and a collective celebration. Scheduled for June 18, this unprecedented 15 km time trial, open to all cyclists upon registration, aims to activate the famous Isère resort from the opening weekend of the summer season.
THE CONCEPT
The Alpe d’Huez Triathlon organizing team, led by Cyrille and Laurence Neveu, in collaboration with the Youniti Marketing agency, is behind the project. “We felt the desire for an event that was both exclusive and festive, where the sporting challenge would only be a pretext to share a moment of cycling communion,” says Cyrille Neveu, technical director. With bib collection starting on Friday afternoon, a frantic party on Saturday, and a closing breakfast where all “climbers” are invited on Sunday morning, the idea is to stretch the event over a full weekend. Competitors also have the option to book their hotel with their bib when registering online (see below).

THE RACE FLOW
Starting from Bourg d’Oisans, participants must reach the Palais des Sports in Alpe d’Huez, in individual time trial mode, i.e. 15 km. Arbitration is ensured by race commissaires responsible for preventing any external assistance or mutual aid between competitors. Four starting ramps are planned to accommodate up to 1000 competitors in a continuous flow from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Three intermediate timing points will allow online tracking of riders, and two giant screens (one at the start and the other at the finish) will display the evolution of the ranking in real time.

THE IDENTITY OF THE CLIMB ALPE D’HUEZ
As soon as the last competitor arrives, the event focuses on the Palais des Sports and a second act punctuated by various activities. On the program: prize-giving (no economic reward), a raffle, an area reserved for food trucks, the broadcast of the video clip summarizing the day, and two DJ sets, one of which is by Jay Style. “We envision an ideal meeting for cycling friends who take on a fun challenge on their bikes, but also seek to make the most of their stay, in a privileged setting. We want to offer an alternative and complementary vision to that of traditional cyclosportive events,” explains Laurence Neveu, in charge of relations with participants.
