Born from a legacy of motorsport competition, and named F1 in homage to Goodyear’s many Formula 1 victories, the Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete tires are among the lightest in their category. The specific Silica compound promises grip, durability, and puncture protection for this competition-oriented model. But what are they really like on the road?

On paper, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete tires are very high-end, with a supple 120 TPI casing and a compound with a blend of natural and synthetic rubber enriched with graphene and silica, to offer excellent performance in terms of efficiency, grip, and durability. The retail price of this Tubeless version is comparable to most of its competitors, at €59.95. They are available in 700×25 (the size chosen for the test), 700×28, 700×30, and 700×32, with black or tan sidewalls. The verified weight for the 700×25 is 302 g, which is decent for a tubeless tire, especially since sealant is not theoretically essential for mounting or ensuring airtightness here.

The Tubeless tire beads use Dual Angle Bead technology, patented by Goodyear, which allows for mounting on both hooked and hookless (TSS) Tubeless rims. The Tubeless Complete design optimizes tubeless tire mounting, with an already airtight casing. Sealant therefore has only one role: to protect against punctures.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete also stand out for their relative ease of mounting, even if tire levers were needed. They can be “popped” with a floor pump, without necessarily requiring a compressor, at least certainly when new. This is a real step forward when you consider that these mounting, or dismounting, problems are a barrier to the adoption of Tubeless technology, and for us, the primary ones. And indeed, it’s not just a promise, as we were able to mount them relatively easily on Mavic UST rims, which are known for very scrupulously respecting ETRTO standards and sometimes being complicated to pair with certain tire models. In this area, only the Pirelli PZero Race SL seem easier to install, and also without tire levers.

Efficiency and comfort delivered
In terms of efficiency, the Goodyear Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete are not left behind, and rival the market leaders. The absence of an inner tube allows for use with a pressure below 6 bar (precisely 5.5 at the front and 5.8 at the rear for our 65 kg tester), which ensures excellent comfort without feeling the tires flatten under powerful pedal strokes.

A contained pressure that perfectly combines with the tread compound to offer devilish grip on dry roads, and even more so on wet ones. Even on degraded roads, the tires hold their own, which is all the more surprising given that we are talking about competition tires here, not models specifically designed for winter conditions. We know, for example, that the rubber of some tires reacts more or less well depending on the ground temperature (whether in terms of efficiency, grip, or puncture resistance).

For the first hundred kilometers, the Goodyears make a slight noise where they contact the asphalt, as if the rubber were breaking in. This noise then disappears without altering the feel, even as the tan sidewalls also retain their superb appearance, even when riding on the wet and greasy roads of early winter.

These conditions were not very pleasant, but ideal for demonstrating the puncture resistance of the Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete. Over the 1500 km of the test, the tester experienced several cuts and punctures, but these were always perfectly sealed by the sealant, splattering a little on the bike’s seat tube in the process. The pressure loss in this case is significant, but the very rapid obstruction of the hole by the sealant (Juice Lub here) allows the ride to continue without any problem.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 Tubeless Complete confirm their status as high-end tires, with very high efficiency, comfort, and above all, reassuring grip in all conditions. They resist punctures well thanks to the Tubeless system, but are still susceptible to cuts and wear due to the softness of the rubber. While we can estimate the lifespan of the rear tire at around 2200 km in winter conditions, these tires should easily reach 3000 to 3500 km in spring or summer. They are therefore among the new benchmarks in the field of Tubeless tires.
