The divine… Fraxion is born! To celebrate 2022, Origine presents the Fraxion, its tenth and new performance road bike. Highly anticipated, announced for many months, the French brand reveals here a “profiled” and not “aero” bike that brings together all the qualities to tackle all terrains and in all conditions. Profiled and not aero?
No, Origine is not playing with words. The term “aero” is flattering, but on the road, aero is very demanding. Wind tunnel tests rarely simulate bad wind with rain, a crosswind in the mountains, a skullcap under a helmet, an open jersey zipper, a slightly (too) comfortable position, a larger water bottle, a bike computer, etc.
By developing a profiled bike, Origine wanted to combine all the advantages of an aero bike and a classic bike so as not to limit it to a single type of use. The Fraxion was designed to excel on all terrains. We are no longer even talking about versatility, because the latter implies that certain concessions, even minimal, must be made. With the Fraxion, we must speak of multiple terrains of excellence.
Meticulous development
Finding the alchemy to develop such a bike requires immense attention. Origine is notably known for its obsession with invisible details. As with all other in-house products, the Fraxion underwent dozens of modifications between its first design and today. It could have been on the market more than a year ago, but certain details that might seem anecdotal kept the Northern French engineers awake and mobilized the teams for entire weeks.
After a long development process, this road bike is the most technically accomplished ever produced by Origine.
Origine DNA
The Fraxion is a muscular bike compared to the Axxome, a ball of nerves just waiting to be pushed, to be accelerated, to ride at a furious pace. The Fraxion is typically the bike that allows you to extract the quintessence of your potential when you are at the top of your game.
But a bike cannot bear the Origine brand if it does not have its DNA. It would be unthinkable, for example, to develop bikes that can only be ridden by an elite. And the Fraxion is no exception to the rule.
The challenge was to design an ultra-sporty bike model by combining the ease that is the signature of Origine bikes. The Fraxion was designed to suit a sprinter developing 2000 watts, a 60 kg climber, an over-trained rouleur, a sportive rider struggling on their last climb of the day, or simply anyone wanting to enjoy the scenery.
Once the mold was made and the technical details settled, it was necessary to sequence the Fraxion’s DNA so that it would fully fit into the Origine family. For this operation, tests and modifications of the layups were at the heart of the development process.
Because an Origine bike would not be an Origine bike without comfort, the Fraxion incorporates all the in-house technologies to make it a long-distance rider, without unnecessary pain or fatigue.
A revolutionary molding process
With the Axxome EVO, Origine developed a revolutionary molding technique: the Unique Matrix Layup. As a reminder, the carbon sheets are assembled on the front triangle in a single step around a single matrix. There are no more junction points, no residue, no unnecessary superposition, pure fiber without defects. This version of our internal mold allows for uniform pneumatic pressure compaction of the fibers over the entire front triangle. This optimized compaction makes it possible to eliminate excess material that previously served as a junction zone but created hard spots and unnecessary weight.
Starting from a blank slate with Fraxion, Origine was able to design this frame based on this technology and not simply adapt it to an existing construction.
Optimal integration
This kind of design is not without consequences for riding comfort, such as internal friction and weight. We had to face multiple constraints to contain the weight of the frame and cockpit assembly and optimize cable routing.
Thus, the steering is fluid, no cables or hoses are constrained thanks to harmonious routing. In addition to the ease of use, one of the main advantages is maintenance, allowing you to ride with peace of mind without fear of spending hours replacing a derailleur cable.
Advanced technologies
The Fraxion benefits from all the technologies developed by Origine over the years. Just like with the Unique Matrix Layup molding, the Fraxion’s design is optimized for the application of these technologies. The fibers used are Ultra High Modulus. The CCT+ triangle offers a high level of responsiveness and optimal comfort.
Speaking of DNA, Dynamic Response is the true signature of an Origine bike. It is the result of the combination of technologies, design, and carbon fiber layups used by the Northern French brand. It is exactly the same principle as a spring that stores energy to release it. All bikes are built around this concept, hence development times that can sometimes seem long from an external perspective.
