Axel Carion is a French explorer who has been cycling the most breathtaking routes around the globe since 2011, starting with his crossing of the Carpathians. Since then, he has cycled across South America twice, notably setting the world record for crossing the continent in 2017, from Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) to Ushuaïa in Argentina, totaling 11,000 km. He has also traveled by bike on the Inca Royal Road in Peru, the King’s Highway in Jordan, and many other iconic locations. In February 2021, he invited his journalist friend, Cédric Ferreira, for a 3,121 km expedition to meet the cycling community: a tour of France staying with locals! They completed “La belle évasion” in 18 days, crossing twelve metropolitan French regions. He shares his passion for adventure and bike exploration through stories in the press, thematic videos on his YouTube channel, and conference presentations.

Together to inspire people to go further by bike! Traveling by bike, bikepacking, or long-distance cycling over several hundred kilometers is within everyone’s reach, but often raises many questions and requires some preparation. The French Cycling Tourism Federation will offer, throughout the year, tutorials by Axel Carion, providing tips and advice for embarking on the paths and roads of France or pushing pedals beyond our borders. The objective is to help both novices and enthusiasts push their territorial and physical limits. These practical, friendly, and common-sense videos will be available from cyclotourisme-mag.com. Axel will also be alongside the Federation at events and conferences throughout the season.
