The French Cycling Tourism Federation unveiled the 2021 edition of the Cycling Charter at the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités Locales (Trade Show for Mayors and Local Authorities). Essential for local authorities and developers, this tool presents the principles of cycling and road infrastructure so that cycling can be as safe as possible.

What are the characteristics of this new Cycling Charter?
It describes the different forms of infrastructure with a view to better coexistence between cyclists and other users of public spaces. It thus promotes the development of bicycle use in urban and rural areas. This new version also includes another edition, the “White Paper,” which presents solutions so that infrastructure designed to slow down the speed of motorized vehicles does not become a danger for cyclists (speed bumps, narrowed roadways, etc.).
A network of local experts mobilized!
The writing of this new Cycling Charter was based on the Federation’s many safety delegates present throughout France and technical partnerships with recognized institutions. This commitment allows for the presentation of concrete examples for a better understanding of development issues. The network of safety delegates is available to developers for any new study or modification of cycling infrastructure, to provide advice from the design stage.
This tool will be complemented by a training offer for local authorities (elected officials and technicians) to successfully implement a cycling policy at the scale of their territory.
