Vizzzz, the aerodynamic mirror that makes cyclists and triathletes faster…

Triathletes all know that having a good position on their bike is essential for success in a competition. This is why they install extensions on their handlebars, which give them greater aerodynamics. However, working in this position is not easy: cyclists are forced to crane their necks, which often leads to cervical pain. It is therefore to allow cyclists and triathletes to perfect their aerodynamic position without hurting themselves that Michel Vernet invented the Vizzzz. This aerodynamic mirror, placed on the extensions, helps to understand the ideal position and to work on it to adopt it unconsciously.

An invention that makes cyclists and triathletes more efficient

The Vizzzz is a very clever little mirror. Placed on the extensions, it allows you to see the road without looking directly at it: the cyclist can thus maintain a perfect aerodynamic position, head down, eyes on the ground, and go faster over long distances with less effort.

The cyclist can relax their neck muscles, ride more comfortably, and immediately feel the sensation of penetrating the air: the wind passes over their head, and no longer as constant pressure on their forehead.

After a few months of training, cyclists are used to riding with their forehead glued to the extensions. They can do without the mirror and pedal without the temptation to lift their head.

The Vizzzz is sold on its dedicated website, where you can find usage tips, as well as on T’ENREV, Michel Vernet’s invention store.

Who is the Vizzzz for?

The Vizzzz is primarily intended for time trial and triathlon competitors. It also provides appreciable comfort for amateur or older cyclists who wish to keep their hands on their racing handlebars without having to crane their necks.

This mirror should not, however, be used in traffic or for commuting: it requires strict learning. It is necessary to prioritize straight and wide roads without vehicles to familiarize oneself with the mirror, as it disorients the brain during the first attempts.

After a few months, or even a few weeks, you get perfectly used to it: “I’ve been riding with a Vizzzz prototype for years. I can’t do without it anymore: on a straight line, my nose is on it constantly!” says Michel Vernet.

Testimonials from early Vizzzz users

The Vizzzz has already attracted cyclists, notably through word-of-mouth. Here’s what its first users say: “Really a great idea that will allow me to progress, I’m sure. I’m going to talk about it around me.” “Not easy to get used to, it really requires learning, but you feel like you’re progressing with the speed increasing in an aero position.” “Super good. You have to adapt, but I love this idea of progressing in my position.” “Very good idea, not easy to master, but with patience, you get good results quite quickly. I’m persevering.“

The origins of the Vizzzz

The idea of the aerodynamic mirror originated from Michel Vernet’s participation in the triathlon world championships in 2018 in South Africa and in 2019 in Nice. “I realized that to improve, working on your aerodynamic position is fundamental,” he explains.

Initially, the inventor wanted to create glasses that would allow him to see forward with his head down. He tested mountaineering glasses, which prevent climbers from hurting their necks by looking up. However, he quickly realized that the system was dangerous.

He then imagined other solutions, including a reflector positioned on the helmet, and a reflective mask extending from the glasses. He finally came up with a bar that he taped to the extensions, with an embedded mirror: the Vizzzz was almost born.

Michel then worked on the fastening system, the product’s shape, the materials, sought funding, and took the plunge into manufacturing. He launched the Vizzzz in 2020, and today hopes that his original product will appeal to cycling and triathlon clubs.

About Michel Vernet, creator of the Vizzzz

Michel Vernet has been an inventor-entrepreneur since 2000. Previously, he worked as a key account manager and logistician in several companies and large industrial groups. He also taught in several schools, including IMEA in Besançon, ESC in Clermont-Ferrand, and CFAI in Dole, where he taught sales and business economics. An inveterate sportsman, he is a triathlon fan, which he has practiced for 20 years, and has several major races to his credit. He is also a motorcyclist and enjoys riding racing machines. His love of adventure led him to participate in 2015 in the M6 show The Island, Seuls au monde, the goal of which was to survive on a desert island off Panama. Michel Vernet founded the T’ENREV website in 2006 to market his cult product, the swimming pole, which allows static swimming training in a small pool, awarded a medal at the Lépine competition in 2008. He has since created several other inventions: the mud and fine dust vacuum cleaner which allows swimming pools to be cleaned without wasting too much water, the foldable and multicolored tomato stake, practical and easy to use, the Kizuko yoga strap, and the vegetal violin, with unvarnished wood stained with plant essences.
