On July 4, in the late afternoon, Steven Le Hyaric arrived in Windhoek after crossing the Namibian desert by bike. 4300 km, 18 days, a 90% gravel route, under temperatures ranging from negative at night to nearly 50°C during the day. The 1st stage of the 666 project is complete!
This crossing is part of a project as crazy as it is ambitious to raise awareness about the dangers of global warming, and its consequences on health and the human body. The 666 project is 6 deserts, 6 continents in 6 months, by bike (ATACAMA /GOBI/ARCTIC /ANTARCTIC /SIMPSON /KALAHARI-NAMIB). A mix of sweat, encounters, happiness in front of so much natural and preserved beauty, and intense efforts on a route that spared neither man nor machine. Heat stroke, fainting, hydration/nutrition and body adaptation to effort under extreme temperatures, he did not hold back.
After the Route de la Chaleur and #DakaRecord which served as a full-scale test (4500 km in 15 days to cycle from Paris to Dakar, a first of its kind), the adventurer and extreme athlete Steven Le Hyaric is realizing the 666 project (6 deserts, 6 countries in 6 months) to alert about global warming and share the beauty of our planet, with the first stage: The oldest desert in the world, that of Namibia (55 million years old).

Despite difficulties that could have quickly ended the adventure (local lockdown, broken wheel axle), Steven crossed the Namib Desert (filming location for Mad Max), Rosh Pina (diamond extraction zone), then followed the South African border towards the Orange and Fish River before sliding towards the Kalahari Desert. A 90% gravel route, challenging under temperatures ranging from negative at night to up to 50°C during the day.

About Project 666

“This project aims to raise awareness (citizens, businesses, politicians) about climate change, and more particularly about the desertification of territories, by crossing 6 deserts on 6 continents in 6 months, all by bike, begins Steven Le Hyaric. Launching the 666 project by crossing the oldest deserts in the world, as a sign of projecting into the future, our future. Which ones? Where? Those that I consider the most hostile for humans and all forms of life: Atacama Desert, Gobi Desert, the Arctic, Antarctica, the Simpson Desert in Australia, and the Kalahari and Namib deserts on the African continent. Namibia symbolizes all of Africa on its own, with its multiple landscapes and its diversity of peoples and cultures. The Kalahari and Namib deserts were the highlights of this absolutely extraordinary project.”
