In collaboration with the five organizations responsible for tourism in the Flemish provinces, the tourism office has developed 9 iconic themed cycling routes to promote Flanders in Belgium and abroad as a cycling holiday destination. In doing so, in collaboration with cyclists, tourism offices, the accommodation sector, tour operators, and cycling service providers, the “Cycling Holidays in Flanders” product is elevated to a higher level. The iconic cycling routes are the links between the must-sees of the Flemish landscape through attractive cycling itineraries articulated around strong themes that allow people to discover the best of Flanders by bike. Before summer 2021, the Hilly Route and the Flanders Route will also be presented.

The UCI Road World Championships will celebrate its 100th anniversary in Flanders
From September 19 to 26, the centenary edition of the championships will shine a spotlight on Flanders, a leading cycling region. The time trials will take place from Knokke-Heist to Bruges, and the road races from Antwerp to Leuven. Everything is ready for an unforgettable centenary edition!
Flanders provides an ideal setting for this special edition: the region is indeed home to great cycling names such as Eddy Merckx, Yvonne Reynders, Johan Museeuw, and Tom Boonen. It is also the scene of some of cycling’s great Classics where riders, men and women, tackle the famous cobbles and formidable “bergs,” such as the Koppenberg, the Oude Kwaremont, the Mur de Grammont, and the Kemmelberg.
To get you in the mood, the UCI has produced 100 Years of Passion, a documentary on 100 years of road world champions.
The province of Flemish Brabant, land of champions
Two great champions each share their favorite route in their region of Flemish Brabant.
Eddy Merckx learned to cycle in his grandparents’ farmyard in Meensel. As a child, Sven Nys did cyclocross in the Balenberg in Tremelo. These two cycling legends invite cycling enthusiasts to their favorite cycling routes in Flemish Brabant. The more adventurous can tackle the roads of the Brabantse Pijl.
