The Tour de France is cycling’s most important race and the biggest annual sporting event in the world. Three glorious and dramatic weeks where heroes can be born and icons can fall. Just in time for the 108th edition of the Grande Boucle, Canyon presents a special limited edition model to celebrate the world’s greatest cycling race. The Ultimate CF SLX 8 Disc TDF, adorned in a unique color, is built around a frame that has already won three Grand Tours and two World Championships.

Featuring a classic playing card motif, the frame’s artwork pays tribute to the Canyon-riding teams that received a Wildcard for this year’s Tour de France: Alpecin-Fenix and Arkéa-Samsic. The joker, the only card revealed in the deck, symbolizes a bringer of luck, and, like the regional flag of Brittany, it also features a stylized ermine, thus paying homage to the event’s starting region.

The Grand Départ from Brest is a very important moment for the Arkéa-Samsic team, which originates from Rennes, in northwest Brittany. During the race, Élie Gesbert, a Breton rider for Arkéa-Samsic, will ride an Ultimate CF SLX TDF frame and give his best on famous climbs such as the Col du Tourmalet and Mont Ventoux.
The graphics of the Tour de France edition of the Ultimate CF SLX were also created to pay homage to the long tradition of card games in cycling culture. Even in Eddy Merckx’s time, pros spent time playing cards between stages. There are even many parallels between cycling jargon and card game language, with expressions such as “poker face,” “ace up the sleeve,” and “bluff.”
In terms of components, only high-end parts are mounted on the Ultimate CF SLX TDF. The drivetrain with SRAM’s 12-speed Force eTap AXS groupset, including a power meter, is combined with Canyon’s ergonomic and lightweight CP10 carbon cockpit. The DT Swiss ARC 1400 Dicut carbon wheels with 50 mm deep-section rims are not only super fast but perfectly complement the bike’s aesthetics. Wrapped in Continental GP 5000 gumwall tires, they offer superb performance for a surprisingly low weight. Like all Ultimate models, the TDF Special Edition is built to deliver uncompromising efficiency and high levels of comfort in the most extreme racing conditions. Add to that extraordinary stiffness and weight values, and you have a bike ready to tackle the highest level of competition.

In honor of the 108th edition of the Tour de France, only 108 units of the Ultimate CF SLX 8 Disc TDF will be available for sale. They will be available from Wednesday, June 30, 2021, exclusively on canyon.com. The bike will cost €5,999 and will come with a special deck of cards designed by Canyon, featuring the same motif on the back as the cards depicted on the bike’s frame.
