CyclOptim, a power meter made in France

At a time when many manufacturers are launching their power meters, we are starting to see a good diversity, even if we still need to be careful, because not all sensors are created equal. CyclOptim is a Bordeaux-based startup that offers a pedal-based power meter, and it is using crowdfunding to complete its project.

Under the impetus of Simon Dousset, the project initiator, the CyclOptim team is launching a road and MTB/Gravel pedal equipped with a very precise power meter, announced with +/- 1% accuracy, but also light, at 175 g per pedal, or 350 g per pair. This is +50 g compared to the Assioma, which are their direct competitors. The CyclOptim are ANT+ compatible (Bluetooth LE will not be available at the beginning, but an update will quickly be implemented to add this functionality), have an autonomy of more than 30 hours, which allows a week of cycling for an enthusiast, and they are easily installed with a 15 mm open-end wrench.

The main advantage of the CyclOptim is that they are compatible with road and MTB with the same spindle. This is very ingenious and allows multi-discipline riders not to have 50 sensors… Especially since from one sensor to another, there are often differences, because it is still electronics.

A pair of pedals that, like any power meter, needs to prove itself, even if the product has been thoroughly tested. Note that the sensor spindles have 4 strain gauges, to guarantee a measurement accuracy of +/- 1%.
