Strava boasts no less than 80 million athletes in its community, making it the leading social network for athletes. Its ongoing goal is to improve the ergonomics of its mobile and web interface. To achieve this, new features that anticipate and meet the needs expressed by athletes are constantly being added. In June, group challenges, the new feature for 2021, will appear on the Strava app.
Group Challenges, a Major Update
The new feature is that it is now possible to challenge your friends and family to a custom challenge. Group challenges represent Strava’s new functionality.
How to access it? The full experience is available to subscribers, on mobile only (iOS + Android). Non-subscribing athletes can create or participate in 3 group challenges before being invited to subscribe.
How does it work? A challenge lasts a minimum of one day and a maximum of one year. The athlete who created the challenge can only invite athletes who follow them on Strava, a maximum of 25 per challenge. They must accept the invitation to join the group.
The challenge creator will choose an objective from those offered (most activities, fastest effort, or longest distance), the duration, and the sports included (from the 32 sports supported by Strava).
A general ranking will allow each participant to measure their progress against the set objective, as well as against other athletes.

Update to the “Maps” Tab in the App
What’s new? With this update to the “Maps” tab, all dimensions related to segments and routes are brought together in a single section. Segments are easier to use. The “Maps” tab now offers segment suggestions.
How does it work? Organized into 6 categories, recommendations are now personalized to help athletes plan the type of run or ride they want to follow.
Popular spots: a sample of the most popular segments in the athlete’s current area.
New places: a sample of the most popular segments in the area that the athlete has not yet visited.
Beat your records: segments where the athlete has the opportunity to achieve a personal record.
Move up the leaderboard: segments where the athlete has the opportunity to move up the leaderboard to enter the top 10.
Do a workout: find nearby tracks, interval training zones, and other places where the community trains.
Become a Local Legend: segments where the athlete has the opportunity to earn Local Legend status.

For July, Strava is already announcing new features.
