The first pass, Passo San Bernardino, will take the riders above the fateful 2000 m altitude barrier for the first time after a long climb of 24 km for an elevation gain exceeding 1500 m.

The second pass (Splügen Pass) will be shorter but also exceeds 2000 m. A descent, announced as technical, will bring the riders to Campodolcino, the true base of the final climb to Alpe Motta. The sequence will be seamless, which could lead to a race of movement from the penultimate pass.

The last climb will also offer gradients conducive to attacks. Especially since this will be the last opportunity to move up in the general classification before the final time trial in Milan.
