This beautiful event is now a must for Italian and foreign granfondo riders, who come to Verona from all over Europe. An international race, it is dedicated to the “Cannibal” Eddy Merckx and bears the name of the famous cycling apparel brand Alé, based in Bonferraro (in the province of Verona, Italy).
After a 2020 edition canceled due to the pandemic, the organization of Verona’s iconic granfondo has restarted with more energy than ever for this year’s event.
The two classic routes have been confirmed: the 129 km granfondo with 2,600 m of elevation gain and the 82 km mediofondo with 1,450 m of elevation gain.

Unlike previous years, it will no longer be possible to register at the last minute: registrations will close on June 2, 2021, and for June 1 and 2, the registration fee will increase from 50 to 60 euros.
All participants must present a Covid-19 self-certification (downloadable from the granfondo website) when collecting their race pack (Saturday, June 5 from 10:30 am to 7 pm and Sunday, June 6 from 6 am to 7 am).
For 2021, the granfondo will also be the sole stage for the awarding of the Granfondo / Mediofondo European Champion titles held by the UEC (European Cycling Union), of which Alé is also a partner for the official jerseys.
The organization is also working on some collateral initiatives with the aim of enlivening the cycling weekend in Verona.
In the early afternoon of Saturday, June 5, at 3 pm, the FCI federated race “Sprint – Giovanissimi Alé” will start on Lungadige Capuleti. It is dedicated to children and young people from categories G1 to G6.
The event will also see the presentation of the Women’s Combativity Award coordinated by journalist Francesca Monzone and dedicated to the female cyclist who has most distinguished herself in life and in sport. The award will be presented by the President of the Afghan Federation, Fazli Ahmad Fazli.
The organization recommends that all participants and spectators exercise the utmost care and cooperate in respecting anti-contagion rules.
