The day after the very difficult Strade Bianche stage, which will undoubtedly have taken its toll on the riders, stage 12 of the 2021 Giro d’Italia could influence the general classification due to its length (212 km) and its medium-mountain profile through the Apennine massif.
The start will be in Siena, the traditional setting for the spectacular Strade Bianche finish, and the finish will be in Bagno di Romagna in the Emilia-Romagna region. While the climbs won’t be as difficult as those awaiting the riders soon, the gradients of the last climb (Passo del Carnaio), up to 14%, could already make a difference before the plunge to the finish via a descent announced as technical.
