In recent years, the term Gravel has sparked much debate regarding its definition and interpretation. But one thing is certain: Gravel has firmly established itself and is set to grow. In 2018, the launch of the Grail marked Canyon’s bold approach to the brand new world of Gravel. The iconic aesthetic and Double Decker cockpit of this bike made an immediate and revolutionary impact. But many other details such as its lightness, efficiency, and speed established the Grail as the new benchmark on mixed dirt and asphalt terrains.

Why then was it necessary to launch another Gravel bike? Simply because Gravel encompasses such a variety of riding styles and terrains, that a single model would not be suitable for everyone. Just like in mountain biking, it’s about finding the right bike for the right trail. That’s why, at Canyon, Gravel no longer corresponds to a single product, but to an entire universe, where a complete range of bikes will be needed to meet the needs of all enthusiasts. This universe is called by Canyon the Gravel spectrum.

That being said, the Grizl was created to expand the Gravel spectrum and better meet the expectations of riders. One of the areas identified is modularity, which allows people to configure their bike according to their practice, whether for bikepacking, racing, or everyday leisure.

Canyon has also identified the evolution of Gravel towards a more extreme practice where enthusiasts added more technical sections to their routine. The need to develop a second family to complement the Grail was therefore evident.

Canyon therefore presents the Grizl, a highly versatile Gravel bike. By combining the functionality of a Swiss Army knife with proven performance DNA, Canyon has created a bike that is at home on challenging terrain and ready for unforgettable day or week-long rides.

The Grizl range features two model levels: the raw and ready-to-use Grizl CF SL and the high-end CF SLX with a super-light 950g carbon frame (painted, size M, including small parts). All models feature the precise and balanced Gravel Pro geometry initially developed for the Grail. To create a consistent riding dynamic for everyone, seven frame sizes (from 2XS to 2XL) are offered, making it one of the widest ranges on the market. In addition, to optimize fit and handling for smaller riders, 2XS and XS bikes use smaller 650B wheels, while larger sizes roll on 700C wheels.

For more demanding terrain, all Grizl models are equipped with wider 45mm tires mounted on tubeless rims, with a 50mm option for those who want to go even further. To allow riders to carry all the tools, spare parts, clothing, and hydration they need, the Grizl has two fork mounts, a top tube mount, and a third bottle cage mount under the down tube (CF SL models only).

For maximum versatility, the Grizl is also equipped with a range of progressive components and features unprecedented on a Canyon Gravel bike. For more confidence on technical trails, the Grizl features internal routing for dropper post compatibility. The Grizl is also 1-by and 2-by compatible, with Shimano GRX and Campagnolo Ekar builds.

Finally, Canyon has partnered with Apidura, the market leader, to create a set of bags adapted to the Grizl. Apidura x Canyon bags are as adventure-ready and performance-oriented as the Grizl. Drawing inspiration from Apidura’s Race and Backcountry series, the bags are lightweight, waterproof, and robust enough to tackle anything from an hour-long pre-work ride to a 320-kilometer gravel race. The collection is exclusively available at Canyon and Apidura.com.

The entry-level Grizl CF SL model will be available between €1,999 and €2,699, and the high-end Grizl CF SLX model will be offered at a price between €4,499 and €4,599. All seven models in the Grizl range will be available from May 11, exclusively on canyon.com.
