Santini launches two special collections dedicated to Vincenzo Nibali and Lizzie Deignan

Vincenzo Nibali and Lizzie Deignan are two well-known names in the world of cycling: he, winner of the three Grand Tours, she, 2015 World Champion, both riders for Trek-Segafredo. Santini dedicates a capsule collection to them with captivating graphics and colors, designed and created directly with the two athletes.

Their names refer to entire chapters in the history of road cycling. Vincenzo Nibali is one of the few cyclists in the world to have won the three leader’s jerseys: the Giro d’Italia, the Tour de France, and La Vuelta. Lizzie Deignan, for her part, wore the rainbow jersey in 2015 and has won numerous road victories including Strade Bianche, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the Tour of Flanders, and many others. Two monuments of modern cycling who wear the colors of the Trek-Segafredo team and who enthusiastically accepted Santini Cycling Wear’s proposal: to create a collection dedicated to them.

Nibali Collection

The dominant colors are blue, red, and yellow: blue like the sea of Sicily, red and yellow like the colors of the Sicilian flag. The kit consists of a jersey, bib shorts, a base layer, a vest, a jacket, and accessories. Vincenzo Nibali’s name is inscribed on the garments and is accompanied by three shark fins in the three colors representing the three Grand Tours won by the Sicilian: pink for the Giro d’Italia, red for La Vuelta, and yellow for the Tour de France. The shark, Nibali’s nickname, is another element that characterizes the kit.

“After the success of the kit created last year with Vincenzo, we decided to create a new kit that would contain the very essence of the champion,” comments Fergus Niland, head designer at Santini Cycling Wear, “where the dominant color is deep blue, like the sea surrounding Messina, crossed by darker waves like those of the strait.“

From a technical point of view, the jersey is made of a polyester microfiber fabric on the front, with high UV protection micro-mesh (protection index +30) on the back. The jersey sleeves have been raw-cut. On the back of the jersey, there are three pockets. A jersey designed for high temperatures, like those of Sicilian summers, but also as light as the matching base layer, also in micro-mesh. Breathability is also guaranteed for the bib shorts, which are equipped with Delta mesh straps and a GITevo chamois: an important construction detail for comfort thanks to a Twist Gel core made with a Carving process capable of creating different thicknesses without seams or gluing, which reduces weight while improving flexibility, elasticity, and breathability. A vest and a windbreaker, socks, gloves, and a neck gaiter complete the look.

Deignan Collection

An athlete for the Trek-Segafredo women’s team, Lizzie Deignan has been a Santini ambassador since 2018. For four years, the English athlete has worked closely with Santini designers on the creation of the brand’s women’s lines. This year again, she participated in the creation of a kit that pays tribute to her world championship victory in the state of Virginia, USA, in 2015.

“We chose the iconic phrase ‘Virginia is for Lovers’ and used it as a background motif for the garments,” comments Fergus, “and we focused on Lizzie’s favorite colors: indigo blue, nautical blue, and coral pink.“

The result is a kit with an extremely feminine cut where no detail is left to chance, such as the hemisphere, which symbolizes the World Cup, with five central lines close together like the five rainbow stripes, and which stands out on the jersey and on the neck gaiter.

The kit consists of a jersey, bib shorts, a base layer, gloves, socks, and a neck gaiter: the jersey is made from a combination of lightweight fabrics and its sleeves have been raw-cut. The bib shorts, for their part, are equipped with a GILevo chamois with a gel core and adapted to the female anatomy.
