Let’s start with aerodynamics – that’s Cervélo’s specialty, above all. Some will say that aero doesn’t matter for a gravel bike. But if you’ve ever faced a headwind in an open field, the 32 grams of aero drag you’ll save with the Àspero-5 (the equivalent of 4 watts) will be welcome. Most gravel races don’t benefit from the peloton effect like in the World Tour, and when you’re facing the wind all day, it’s always good to know that your bike will help you a little more.
Integration and handling
At the front, under its cleverly concealed hoses, the TrailMixer is located on the fork. This was already one of the features of the Áspero. Retained on the Àspero-5, this simple part ensures that the fork’s trail – and therefore handling – remains consistent when you switch from a 700c wheel to a 650b wheel. Anyone who has ever ridden an Áspero knows there’s something special about how the bike handles, and much of that comes from the fork’s trail.
The Àspero-5 is also equipped with specific integrated spacers under the stem (like on the Caledonia-5) which mean you don’t have to disconnect hoses and cables to adjust the stem height. The bike also comes with a new flared Cervélo carbon handlebar for gravel riding, and offers the possibility of mounting 45 mm tire width on 700c wheels.
The Áspero-5 is available in several configurations with SRAM AXS (Force and Red) or Shimano GRX Di2 drivetrains, Reserve Carbon Gravel wheels and Panaracer Gravelking tires. A frameset will also be offered (including seatpost, stem and handlebar). Three colors are available. Price: from €7999.
