What’s New on Strava

Making the platform ever more efficient and ergonomic for the 73 million athletes in its community and continuously improving the mobile and web interface: these are the major concerns of the technical team at Strava, the leading social network for athletes. To do this, engineers are constantly developing new features that meet the needs expressed by athletes and anticipate them. This beginning of 2021 marks the launch of three new features: simplified search, added location, and improvements to indoor activities. Let’s take a closer look at these three key developments…

Activity Search on Mobile

What’s new? The ability for athletes to easily search for and find a special race or activity without having to scroll endlessly through their activity feed. Uploaded activities can be searched by keyword and/or filtered by sport type, distance, time, elevation, date range, and type (long run, workout, or race). This also allows athletes to see how many activities they have completed based on the defined filters.

For whom? Available to all athletes, whether subscribers or not. On the mobile app only.

Location Integrated into Posts

What’s new? Previously, to view the location of an activity, you had to click on the activity map and zoom out. The location now automatically appears in the details of GPS activities. Their processing is similar to that of time. The location will not be indicated on non-GPS activities, such as indoor training sessions. Viewing the location of a friend’s or family member’s activity is now easier for athletes by simply browsing their news feed.

For whom? Available to all athletes, whether subscribers or not. On the mobile app and website.
How to access? Automatic display when recording a GPS activity.

Indoor Activities

What’s new? Starting February 24, Strava will integrate a set of non-GPS activities into the mobile app. This will allow athletes to benefit from a better recording experience via the mobile app, but also to improve their experience on the app thanks to the possibility of introducing heart rate data. Athletes who record indoor activities will see elapsed time, start time, and heart rate (if an HR monitor is connected) instead of distance and speed as is the case for outdoor activities requiring GPS. Uploaded activities will show time, HR (if available), and calories (if available). Indoor sports covered by this new feature include CrossFit, elliptical, step, weight training, yoga, and strength training.
For whom? Available to all athletes, whether subscribers or not. On the mobile app only.
How to access? Automatic update on app version 190
