Just over three years after its return to the world of non-motorized two-wheelers, Pirelli is asserting itself as one of the major players in the professional peloton. After confirming the renewal for 2021 of agreements with the Trek-Segafredo and Team BikeExchange teams, Pirelli announces an additional partnership with a third World Tour team: the Ag2r Citroën team. Pirelli tubular and tubeless tires will therefore equip the BMC bikes used by the riders of the team managed by Vincent Lavenu this 2021 season.

The agreement provides that the World Tour team as well as the U23 reserve team will ride Teammachine SLR01 and Timemachine Road 01 bikes equipped with the latest Pirelli road tire technology: the brand new P ZERO in both TLR (tubeless-ready) and tubular versions.

For training, the Ag2r Citroën team riders will also benefit from Pirelli Cinturato tires, the highly resistant TLR road tire, ideal for racking up kilometers safely, while remaining high-performance. For Pirelli, this partnership will also serve to monitor product evolution through a continuous exchange of tire feedback and continuous improvement of their performance based on athlete advice.

Debriefing after cobblestone tests for Greg Van Avermaet and the Pirelli technical teams.

Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet discovered the new Pirelli P ZERO Race TLRs during the team’s first training camp on the Costa Blanca: “Pirelli can bring the great experience gained in other sports to cycling. Personally, I’m happy to have Pirelli tires not only on my car, but also on my bike. From the first sensations, Pirelli tires perfectly satisfied me: rolling resistance and wet grip are good, which is really important in terms of performance and safety. I can’t wait to test them in races, at even higher speeds.”

“As you know, by becoming Ag2r Citroën Team, we are opening a new chapter in our history,” adds Vincent Lavenu, the team’s general manager. We are proud to work with an internationally renowned brand like Pirelli, which will offer safety, reliability, innovation, and experience to our cyclists. We look forward to achieving new goals together.”

Pirelli and Ag2r Citroën did not take long to inaugurate their new technical partnership, with Aurélien Paret-Peintre’s victory at the recent Grand Prix Cycliste La Marseillaise.
